About ANHDO:

Afghanistan National Horticulture Development Organization (ANHDO) is a national non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization registered with the Ministry of Economy and established in April 2009. The development of ANHDO is part of the European Union (EU) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL) long-term strategy for the development of the horticulture sector in Afghanistan. Since then, ANHDO has developed into an important institution for horticulture development by comparing among other skilled and experienced Afghan professional organizations in the horticulture sector. ANHDO is operating in close coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL) based on a separate Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Hence, ANHDO is a cornerstone of the long-term strategy for the development of the horticulture sector in Afghanistan.

 ANHDO is currently looking for   Agriculture Economist / Value Chain & Market Linkage Specialist for its project Agriculture Support Services for Farmers under the Water Emergency Relief Project (WERP) The project aims to improve agricultural production, productivity, and incomes of smallholder farmers in Takhar, Kunar, Laghman and Badakhshan provinces through sustainable, solar-powered irrigation schemes under the Water Emergency Relief Project (WERP) The project will support farmers by delivering capacity building and agricultural extension services, facilitating access to quality inputs, implementing cash-for-work activities for small-scale irrigation and on-farm infrastructure improvements, and strengthening market linkages. Key interventions include training on crop production, irrigation water management, soil fertility, integrated pest management (IPM), post-harvest handling, and value addition, alongside support for farmer organizations and access to markets.

Job Summary:

The Agriculture Economist / Value Chain & Market Linkage Specialist is responsible for analyzing agricultural markets and value chains to improve farmers’ market access and income opportunities. The position focuses on conducting market assessments, facilitating market linkages, supporting contract farming and B2B partnerships, and strengthening farmer clustering and pricing strategies. The role also engages with private sector actors and value chain stakeholders to promote efficient, inclusive, and sustainable agricultural market systems.

Job Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Agribusiness Management, or a relevant discipline is preferred
  • Additional training or certification in value chain analysis, market systems development, or agribusiness is an advantage. Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing large-scale development or humanitarian projects, preferably in agriculture or livelihoods.
  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, Agribusiness Management, or a relevant discipline is preferred
  • Additional training or certification in value chain analysis, market systems development, or agribusiness is an advantage
  • Proven experience with donor-funded projects (e.g., UNDP, WFP, FAO, UNOPS, etc.).
  • Fluency in English, Dari, and/or Pashto is required
