The Pharmacy Manager at ASLO is responsible for overseeing the complete pharmaceutical supply chain and ensuring the availability, quality, and rational use of medicines and medical supplies across all ASLO-supported health projects. This includes procurement planning, inventory management, warehousing, quality control, staff supervision, coordination with stakeholders, and compliance with national and international standards. The Pharmacy Manager works closely with the Procurement, Logistics, and Program teams to maintain an uninterrupted supply of essential drugs and medical commodities at health facilities.

Develop, implement, and monitor efficient pharmaceutical supply chain systems.

Coordinate with procurement and logistics units to ensure timely ordering and delivery of medical supplies.

Ensure accurate forecasting and quantification of drugs and medical supplies.

Oversee all aspects of medical stock management, including receiving, storing, and issuing medications in compliance with WHO/GPP standards.

Ensure that all pharmaceutical products meet national quality standards and are procured from licensed suppliers.

Monitor proper storage conditions, including temperature, humidity, and security of pharmaceuticals at all levels (central, provincial, and facility).

Liaise with Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority (AFDA), MoPH, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical importation and use.

Maintain and update electronic and manual inventory records.

Perform routine physical stock counts and reconcile discrepancies.

Develop and submit monthly and quarterly inventory reports, consumption trends, expiry tracking, and stockout analysis.

Investigate and report any incidents of drug misuse, pilferage, or adverse events.

Supervise and provide technical support to provincial pharmacy officers and health facility pharmacists.

Train health workers on rational drug use, prescription practices, stock management, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Build local capacity in Good Storage and Distribution Practices (GSDP) and rational pharmaceutical management.

Collaborate with internal teams (Admin, Finance, MEAL, Logistics) for integrated supply chain and program delivery.

Represent ASLO in pharmaceutical coordination forums and technical working groups.

Coordinate with partners such as UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, and others on pharmaceutical logistics and donations.

Conduct regular supervisory visits to provincial warehouses and health facilities to monitor stock practices and documentation.

Ensure standardization of pharmacy practices across all ASLO health projects.

Contribute to project planning, proposal development, and donor reporting related to pharmaceutical components.

Participate in internal and external audits related to pharmaceutical management.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the line manager to support ASLO’s mission.
