Duties & Responsibilities

The Child Protection Manager is responsible for leading and managing child protection programs aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of children. This role involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of child protection interventions, advocating for children’s rights, and collaborating with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups to address child abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The Child Protection Program Manager ensures that programs are effective, sustainable, and aligned with national and international child protection standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Program Design & Development:
    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of child protection programs that address issues such as child abuse, child labor, trafficking, exploitation, and neglect.
    • Conduct needs assessments and situation analyses to understand the child protection challenges in specific regions and design programs that address those needs.
    • Ensure programs are designed in line with national child protection policies, international conventions (such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child), and best practices in child safeguarding.
  2. Program Implementation & Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day management of child protection programs, ensuring that activities are implemented according to established guidelines, timelines, and budget.
    • Supervise program staff and ensure effective coordination of program activities, ensuring that child protection services are delivered in a timely and professional manner.
    • Work closely with local authorities, community groups, and other stakeholders to ensure the proper delivery of services to children and families.
  3. Monitoring, Evaluation, & Reporting:
    • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness and impact of child protection programs.
    • Regularly review program data and feedback to make adjustments to strategies and interventions where necessary.
    • Prepare and submit detailed reports on program progress, challenges, and results to senior management, donors, and external partners.
    • Ensure that monitoring activities are aligned with organizational goals and child protection standards.
  4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Foster relationships and collaborate with governmental bodies, law enforcement, health services, education providers, and NGOs to ensure a holistic approach to child protection.
    • Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and communities to create child-friendly spaces and protect vulnerable children from harm.
    • Act as a liaison between the organization and external stakeholders, including donors and international partners, to ensure coordination and alignment on child protection initiatives.
  5. Advocacy & Policy Development:
    • Advocate for the rights of children by engaging in policy discussions and child protection reforms at local, national, and international levels.
    • Raise awareness about child protection issues through media, community outreach, and public awareness campaigns.
    • Help develop child protection policies, frameworks, and strategies in collaboration with government bodies and international organizations.
  6. Training & Capacity Building:
    • Provide training and capacity-building sessions for staff, local partners, and community members on child protection principles, child rights, and safeguarding practices.
    • Lead workshops and seminars to enhance the capacity of social workers, educators, law enforcement officers, and other professionals in identifying and responding to child protection cases.
    • Support the professional development of child protection teams, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to manage cases effectively.
  7. Case Management & Legal Support:
    • Provide technical support for case management processes, ensuring that children’s cases are handled appropriately and in the best interests of the child.
    • Support the identification, referral, and monitoring of child protection cases, including those involving abuse, neglect, trafficking, and exploitation.
    • Work with legal teams to ensure children’s rights are upheld in legal proceedings and that children receive appropriate legal support.
  8. Resource Management & Budgeting:
    • Oversee the budgeting and financial management of child protection programs, ensuring resources are used effectively to achieve program outcomes.
    • Secure funding for program activities by developing proposals and working with donors to ensure sustainability.
    • Monitor and report on program expenditures, ensuring compliance with financial guidelines and donor requirements.
  9. Risk Assessment & Safety Protocols:
    • Ensure that the safety and well-being of children are prioritized throughout all aspects of the program.
    • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential threats to children and implement appropriate safety protocols.
    • Ensure that all staff and volunteers are trained in safeguarding children and are familiar with protocols for reporting and responding to abuse and neglect.

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Social WorkChild ProtectionPsychologyHuman Rights, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Child Protection,Law, Public Health, or International Development is highly preferred.
    • Additional training or certifications in child protection, safeguarding, or social work are an advantage.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5-7 years of experience in child protection or child welfare, with a minimum of 3 years in a management or leadership role.
    • Proven experience in program management, including designing, implementing, and evaluating child protection interventions.
    • Experience in working with vulnerable children, including those at risk of abuse, neglect, trafficking, or exploitation.
    • Knowledge of national and international child protection laws, policies, and standards.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a multidisciplinary team.
    • In-depth knowledge of child protection frameworks, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and national child protection legislation.
    • Excellent communication and advocacy skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle complex, sensitive cases.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Experience with monitoring and evaluation tools and reporting.
