About French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children:

Through its Patient Welfare Support Programme, it has provided over $57.6 million in subsidized or free care, ensuring equitable access to high-quality treatment for vulnerable populations.

Job Descriptions:
  1. Conduct comprehensive assessment of all patients prior to the surgery.
  2. Initiate extra corporate circulation in adult, paeds and infant for independent operation of the heart lung machine and perform procedure for circulatory support; including blood preparation.
  3. Monitor vital parameters throughout the procedure.
  4. Communicate plan with surgeon for hypothermia; and communicate plan with anesthetist for priming and usage of blood.
  5. Provide ongoing feedback to the surgeon in a clear concise manner during the procedure.
  6. Keep the following devices ready for emergency situation:
  • Left ventricular device with accessories
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump with accessories
  • Blood salvage system
  • Activated clotting timer (ACT)
  1. Work collaboratively with ICU, Anesthesiology and other teams.
  2. Ensure cost effective utilization of medical / surgical supplies and diagnostic procedure.
  3. Check all the relevant equipment & instrument for appropriate functioning. Ensure availability of back up equipment and supplies.
  4. Keep the alternative support system ready under sterilized condition in case of failure of the regular system.
  5. Follows the guideline for the storage, preparation and dilution, and administration of concentrated electrolytes as per policy.
  6. Administers medication safely as credentialed, monitors patient responses to medication where indicated and reports related incidents promptly.
  7. Performs routine unit specific procedures independently or with minimal supervision.
  8. Assists in handling cardiac arrest situation.
  9. Maintain equipment checklists of perfusion with a clear accountability.
  10. Liaises with CSSD for obtaining and sending surgical instruments by following related protocols.
  11. Coordinate with the surgical team for preparation for the next scheduled patient.
  12. Participates in cleaning and disinfection of medical surgical item and OR as per the policy; including dusting of the OR on daily bases.
  13. Ensures patient safety; and follows time out policy.
  14. Performs hands off using SBAR technique; and carries out special assignment
  15. Demonstrates safe handling and proper use of equipment/supplies as per manufacturer instruction.
  16. Provides safe environment for the patients by following infection control policies and applying safety measures for patients.
  17. Guides new staff in provision of safe nursing care and in compliance of Hospital policies and procedures.
  18. Updates own skills by attending certification and recertification courses as per credentialing requirement.    
  19. Analyze blood gasses and chemistry. Able to interpret and communicate panic lab results to physician.    
  20. Incorporates clinical knowledge including diseases, drugs and dosages into practice and anticipates care and acts accordingly.
  21. Follows institutional policy for handling Patients’ valuables.
  22. Provides timely, comprehensive and complete documentation by utilizing nursing process, which meets nursing quality standards.
  23. In case of no cardiac surgery utilize his time in activities as assigned by the supervisor
  24. Must be regular and punctual on work with > 96% attendance.
  25. Keeps oneself well-groomed and maintains the uniform code at all times.
  26. Participates in professional activities
  27. Demonstrates leadership qualities to become a team leader.
  28. Accepts the management decision to work in any of the areas when transferred or assigned as per institution’s need.
  29. Able to discharge duties on public holidays and off days; and perform long duty hours and shift duties including night shift as per need.
  30. Be accessible through phone during off-days and leave-days; and discharge duty in case of emergency when called.
  31. Follow & reinforce the unit policies & procedures.
  32. Maintain log books as assigned by supervisor/team leader.
  33. Performs any other related task as assigned by supervisor.
  34. Periodic Responsibilities
  35. Participate in unit meeting and educational programs as required.
  36. Offer duty in emergency cases.  
  37. Document and report incidents to the supervisor.
  38. Participate in departmental preparation activities for JCIA and ISO audits.
  39. Participate in quality circles and quality projects whenever assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited health professional program diploma/degree preferably nursing  

Current registration from MoPH/MoHE

Trained as perfusionist from a recognized Cardiovascular institution (Perfusionist training) – preferred

Certification in in the following is preferred:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Safe Medication Administration
  • Intravenous Cannulation (IV)
  • Infection Control (IC)
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)

 

Work experience:

2 to 3 years of clinical experience

 

Knowledge, competencies and attributes:
