Job Descriptions:

Background:

The Afghanistan Peace Builders Humanitarian Organization (APBHO) is implementing the Resilience Food Systems (RFS) project, aimed at enhancing food security, women empowerment, and income generation within target communities. The project comprises two relevant major components: kitchen gardening and Small Holder Agriculture Market Support (SAMS). To ensure the successful implementation of these components, APBHO seeks to hire an experienced and dedicated Agriculture Technical Supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Training and Capacity Building:
  • Deliver technical training sessions using Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials on vegetable cultivation, harvesting, and best agronomic practices to beneficiaries.
  • Conduct training sessions that empower women and focus on income generation through the "Cash for Work" program by distributing vegetable seeds.
  • Provide comprehensive technical training to beneficiaries on marketing strategies, value chain development, and food/product processing activities.
  • Organize cultivation technical training sessions, including value chain training, across all target communities.
  • Conduct on-site technical assessments, design plans, and estimate resources for ACL-CBT (Agriculture and Livelihoods-Community-Based Training) sub-projects.

2. Kitchen Gardening and Small Holder Agriculture Market Support (SAMS):

  • Facilitate technical training in kitchen gardening practices throughout the project's duration.
  • Ensure beneficiaries receive ongoing technical guidance and support related to kitchen gardening.
  • Evaluate existing documents to understand the production and marketing capabilities of smallholder farmers, proposing improvements to enhance the value chain system.
  • Establish direct linkages between smallholder farmers and structured markets to augment their agricultural incomes.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:

  • Actively participate in the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) activities of the project, providing valuable insights and contributing to reporting.

4. Adherence to Policies and Guidelines:

  • Familiarize oneself thoroughly with APBHO's policies, including Child Protection and Child Safeguarding Policy, accountability, Anti-fraud and anticorruption policy, Diversity, Code of Conduct, Data protection, Safeguarding, and PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) policies.

5. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with project teams, partners, and beneficiaries to ensure effective communication and coordination of activities.

6. Professional Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest agricultural techniques, technologies, and trends, and incorporate them into training materials and sessions.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field; a Master's degree is desirable.

- A minimum of 5 years of experience in agricultural extension, technical training, and capacity building, preferably in rural or community development projects.

- Strong knowledge of vegetable cultivation, kitchen gardening, value chain development, and marketing strategies.

- Proven experience in conducting training sessions, preferably using IEC materials.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in diverse cultural settings.

- Proficiency in written and spoken English, Pashto, Dari, and Uzbaki languages.

- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Familiarity with the agricultural context and challenges in Afghanistan
