OHW is operating since 2007 in the country with active membership with the national clusters and international donor agencies in Afghanistan including SWABAC, ACBAR, AICS, BAAG, AWN and most of the national and international Clusters operates based in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Screening of the children of less than five years and Pregnant and lactating women for nutrition status.
  • Identify U5 Children and PLWs with nutrition and refer them to nearby treatment center
  • Provide health education to women, children and men attending health facilities on nutrition
  • Participate in monthly meeting with CHWs and encourage them for community level nutrition screening and collect their monthly report
  • Liaise with different section of the health facility to ensure referral of patients/client for nutrition screening and avoid missed opportunity
  • Monthly nutrition related reporting
  • Follow good follow up of referred out patients by line supervisor with the nutrition treatment centers
  • Working closely with the project manager and field staff.
  • Mobilize the community around the promotion of optimal infant and young child feeding practices and health seeking behaviours
  • Daily supervision of support group meetings in communities.
  • Facilitate the formation of Mother-to-Mother and Father to father support groups meetings and conduct supportive supervision/spot checks during support group meetings.
  • Support in the referral of malnourished cases from support groups to health facilities offering Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) services.
  • Collate and compile program monthly data reports.
  • Participate in the training of lead mothers and support group members on Food Demonstration
  • Working closely with the other project staff (FSL, Education, CP) to ensure timely referral and linkage across projects
  • Provide capacity building and trainings to community nutrition mobilizers, and Community Nutrition volunteer Mobilizers or CHW.
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly follow up with Community Mobilizers and community leaders through review/feedback meetings.
  • Ensure that beneficiaries benefiting from the nutrition activities
  • Work closely with the MEAL team to ensure that data are captured in a correct and accurate manner
  • Assist the project team in giving supportive supervision to community volunteers.
  • Compile and submit reports on weekly progress report
  • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
  • Plan, coordinate and organize activities to improve nutrition care practices and training of the targeted community people
  • To conduct KAP survey at targeted communities
  • Impart hygiene awareness sessions to children and parents on significance of hygiene practices
  • Conduct nutrition care awareness in a way that behaviour change can occur
  • Have a detailed and regular plan for conducting nutrition care awareness sessions
  • To work for the promotion of nutrition care practices at community level
  • To closely work with the religious leaders at provincial and community level in order to develop and disseminate Islamic nutrition care key messages
  • Make known for community the importance, significance and impact of good nutrition care practice
  • Integrate Islamic nutrition care key messages into the educational sessions of targeted health facilities and health posts
  • Build and maintain good relationships with community members and leaders,
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager and other relevant project staff in all issues related to the implementation of project activities.
  • Provide daily/weekly progress/activity reports
  • Motivate the community for contribution in program.
  • Keep an updated record of all field activities
  • Undertakes any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor
  • To participate into the Friday prayers of the targeted communities in consultation with project manager and other relevant staffs
  • Provide support to CHWs through training and technical assistance

Any other tasks referred by supervisor

Job Requirements:
  • At least diploma in nursing or related field from recognized institute/university
  • Experience in Nutrition and community-based programming
  • Received IMAM,  HMIS , MIYCN or IYCF and other trainings
  •  At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a similar position
  • Ability to communicate in the local languages
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Previous working experience with local and international NGOs
  • Proven capacity of management, leadership and teamwork
  • Excellent communication skills and a willingness to be respectful, kind, sensitive and empathies with all beneficiaries and their careers
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions
  • Demonstrable ability at report writing
  • Prepared to live and work in an uncertain security environment
  • Ability and willingness to frequently travel and stay at the field
  • Commitment to and understanding of OHW principles

Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages
