Job Descriptions:
  1. The Bank’s Shariah Department will be responsible for conducting ground works on all Shariah-related matters of the Islamic business activities of the Bank.
  2. Sharia Department is responsible for reviewing the policies, procedures, manual, contracts/agreements and products developed by all departments.
  3. Sharia Department is responsible for developing the policies, procedures and manuals related to Sharia.
  4. Sharia Department is responsible for taking the approval of policies, procedures, manuals, products etc. from Sharia Board of the Bank-e-Millie and SSB of DAB if required
  5. Sharia Department will conduct research on Shariah issues and ensuring that all structures, terms and conditions, legal documentation and operational process flow and procedures are Shariah compliant.
  6. The Sharia Department (Shariah Review Unit) will provide regular assessment on Shariah compliance in the activities and operations of the Bank with the objective of ensuring that the activities and operations carried out by the Bank does not contravene Shariah principles.
  7. Sharia Department will provide advisory support to the Management in relation to the Bank’s Shariah compliant operations in accordance to decisions and rulings issued by the Bank’s Shariah Board.
  8. To review Credit proposals on pre-disbursement and post disbursement basis.
  9. Sharia Department will provide continuous assessment from the local laws and regulatory purview of the Shariah Compliant activities to ensure compliance at the regulatory level and inform the Management Board immediately in situation where there may be a conflict between the Shariah and regulatory laws to avoid regulatory sanctions.
  10. Sharia Department will identify all possible Shariah non-compliance risks and, where appropriate, remedial measures that need to be taken to reduce the risks and a continuous Shariah Audit of processes and deliverables, as well as determining that such processes and outcomes satisfy the needs of the Shariah.
  11. Sharia Department will undertake periodical assessment to provide an independent assessment and objective assurance designed to add value and improve the degree of compliance of the Bank’s business operations.
  12. The Shariah Secretariat Unit under The Shariah Review Unit  with its responsibilities include coordinating meetings, compiling proposal papers, disseminating Shariah decisions to stakeholders and engaging with relevant parties who wish to seek further deliberations of issues from the Shariah Board.
  13. Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Job Requirements:

 Experience

 • Strong knowledge of Shariah & law or Fiqh ul Muamalat or experience of at least 5 years giving religious rulings or at least 3 years’ experience in Islamic Banking operation.

Knowledge-Skills-Abilities:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Sharia, principles of jurisprudence, or jurisprudence of transactions. 
  2. Shariah Expert or Auditor certification (CSAA) by Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) is preferred.
  3. Professional training or certificates in Islamic banking related field a plus
  4. Adequate understanding of the detailed responsibilities of the Sharia Department as well as the bank's business, operations and risks;
  5. Proficiency in local languages and English, both oral and written
  6. Excellent communication skills;

Track Record:

• The Shariah Chief Officer must have an faultless track record in the companies he/she has served either in the capacity of an employee or director/chief executive or as chairman.

• Has not given any wrong fatwa’s on Islamic Finance transactions.

 • Has not been associated with any illegal activity especially relating to banking business.

 • Has not been convicted any criminal offence, involved in any fraud/forgery, financial crime etc.

• Has not been disqualified by DAB or court.
