Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Safeguarding Officer is responsible for ensuring the protection and well-being of children and vulnerable adults involved in SGOA’s education programs. This role includes implementing safeguarding policies, conducting risk assessments, training staff, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding standards. The officer will work closely with program teams, local communities, and stakeholders to create a safe environment for all beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safeguarding Policy Implementation:

    • Ensure that SGOA’s safeguarding policies are effectively implemented at all program levels.

    • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify and mitigate safeguarding risks.

    • Ensure safeguarding measures align with national and international child protection frameworks.

  2. Training & Capacity Building:

    • Develop and deliver safeguarding training sessions for staff, volunteers, and partners.

    • Raise awareness on safeguarding principles within the community.

    • Provide guidance on best practices for reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns.

  3. Monitoring & Reporting:

    • Establish and maintain a confidential reporting mechanism for safeguarding concerns.

    • Investigate reported safeguarding cases and ensure appropriate actions are taken.

    • Maintain accurate records of safeguarding incidents and submit reports to the Safeguarding Focal Point.

  4. Community Engagement & Advocacy:

    • Work with community leaders, parents, and school staff to promote child protection.

    • Ensure participation of children and vulnerable adults in developing safeguarding measures.

    • Advocate for policies that enhance child safety and prevent exploitation and abuse.

  5. Compliance & Coordination:

    • Ensure compliance with donor safeguarding requirements and organizational policies.

    • Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and child protection agencies to strengthen safeguarding networks.

    • Support internal audits and evaluations related to safeguarding standards.

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Child Protection, Psychology, Law, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in safeguarding, child protection,  or related areas.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of safeguarding policies and child protection frameworks.

    • Experience in conducting investigations and handling sensitive cases.

    • Ability to develop and implement safeguarding training programs.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

    • Ability to work with diverse teams and communities.

    • Fluency in English, Pashto, and Dari is preferred.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Willingness to travel to field locations as needed.

    • Commitment to SGOA’s mission, child protection, and gender equality.
