Job Descriptions:

The Mentor/Coach will support youth beneficiaries during practical learning and supervised internship placements under the Education Workforce Skills Programme in Logar and Maidan Wardak. The position will help trainees apply classroom learning in real educational settings by providing coaching, observation, guidance, and performance feedback to strengthen instructional practice, professional conduct, classroom support skills, and readiness for entry-level roles in schools and private learning centers.

Roles & Responsibilities

1- Mentoring and Coaching Support:

  • Provide regular mentoring and coaching to trainees during classroom practice, practical exercises, and supervised internships to strengthen instructional support skills, confidence, and professional behavior.
  • Guide beneficiaries on lesson support, communication with teachers and learners, classroom organization, time management, and child-friendly approaches appropriate for primary schools and private learning centers.

2- Internship Follow-up and Field Supervision:

  • Conduct routine follow-up visits to internship sites, observe trainee performance, and ensure beneficiaries are receiving practical learning opportunities in line with project objectives and placement plans.
  • Coordinate with host schools, private learning centers, and relevant supervisors to address field-level challenges and support a positive, structured, and productive internship experience for participants.

3- Performance Observation and Feedback:

  • Observe trainee participation, practical teaching support, learner interaction, and workplace conduct, and provide constructive feedback to help beneficiaries improve their performance and professional readiness.
  • Maintain clear records of coaching sessions, field observations, performance notes, and progress updates, and identify trainees who may require additional support or follow-up.

4- Support for Practical Skills Development:

  • Assist trainees in applying learning from the four-month training phase to real or simulated classroom environments through demonstration, guided practice, reflection, and problem-solving support.
  • Encourage trainees to strengthen literacy and numeracy reinforcement techniques, classroom support practices, inclusion, safeguarding awareness, and respectful engagement with children and education staff.

5- Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Coordinate closely with the Project Manager, Training Instructors, M&E staff, community mobilizers, host institutions, and educational authorities to ensure effective implementation of mentorship and internship support activities.
  • Share field observations, beneficiary progress, implementation challenges, and practical recommendations with the project team to improve trainee performance and overall programme quality.

6- Reporting and Documentation:

  • Prepare timely reports on mentoring visits, coaching sessions, trainee progress, attendance concerns, field issues, and internship performance, and maintain complete supporting documentation.
  • Support collection of case studies, success stories, trainee feedback, and other evidence related to practical learning outcomes and transition toward workforce engagement.

7- Safeguarding and Compliance:

  • Ensure all mentoring, coaching, and field support activities are conducted in accordance with safeguarding principles, child protection standards, organizational policies, and donor requirements.
  • Promote confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, professional conduct, and appropriate referral of protection or behavioral concerns identified during field engagement with trainees or host institutions.

8- Any Other Supportive Duties:

  • Provide support during orientation sessions, training reviews, placement coordination, assessments, learning events, and other project activities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Carry out any other relevant responsibilities required for the effective implementation of the Education Workforce Skills Programme.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Teacher Training, Pedagogy, Social Sciences, or another relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in mentoring, coaching, teaching, classroom supervision, internship support, education projects, or youth development programmes.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and coaching skills, with the ability to guide, motivate, and provide constructive feedback to youth beneficiaries in a supportive manner.
  • Good understanding of classroom practices, instructional support methods, professional conduct, and learner-centered approaches, especially in primary education or early grade settings.
  • Ability to observe performance, document progress, identify practical challenges, and prepare organized field reports in a timely manner.
  • Strong coordination, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with schools, training centers, communities, and project teams.
  • Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality, non-discrimination, and professional conduct when working with youth beneficiaries, children, and partner institutions.
  • Previous experience with NGOs, workforce programmes, teacher support initiatives, or education-related projects is highly desirable.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Dari and Pashto is required; knowledge of English is an advantage.
