Job Summary

The Remedial and Catch Up Trainer Officer will support the design, implementation, and quality assurance of remedial and catch up education programs targeting children who have fallen behind academically or missed critical learning opportunities. The position focuses on helping learners bridge gaps in foundational literacy and numeracy, rebuild learning confidence, and progress toward grade level competencies.

The Trainer Officer will provide technical support to teachers and facilitators through structured training, classroom observation, and on site coaching. The role also ensures alignment of remedial and catch up interventions with Ministry of Education standards and supports integration of learners into formal or community based education pathways. The position is full time and requires regular field engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Program Implementation and Classroom Support

Support the implementation of remedial and catch up classes for targeted learners at primary education level.
Conduct routine and structured classroom visits to observe teaching practices, learner engagement, and lesson delivery.
Provide on site technical guidance to teachers on re teaching foundational skills in literacy and numeracy.
Support the use of differentiated instruction and learner centered approaches to address individual learning gaps.
Ensure safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments that promote learner confidence and participation.

Training and Capacity Building

Support the development, review, and adaptation of training curricula, manuals, and handouts for remedial and catch up education.
Ensure training materials are aligned with Ministry of Education standards and approved curricula.
Deliver initial and refresher training sessions for teachers and facilitators on remedial teaching strategies, assessment of learning gaps, and accelerated learning approaches.
Ensure all training sessions are conducted in appropriate venues, materials are distributed properly, and attendance records are maintained.
Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to teachers based on classroom observation findings.

Monitoring, Quality Assurance, and Learner Progress

Monitor teaching and learning processes to ensure effective delivery of remedial and catch up lessons.
Support teachers in assessing learner progress through simple diagnostic and formative assessment tools.
Track learner attendance, progress, and completion of remedial cycles.
Support the transition or reintegration of learners into age appropriate grades or formal education pathways where applicable.
Contribute to the documentation of good practices, challenges, and lessons learned.

Community Engagement and Learner Support

Engage parents, caregivers, and community members to promote understanding of remedial and catch up education objectives.
Encourage regular attendance and family support for learners participating in remedial programs.
Support community based structures to enhance learner retention and accountability.
Promote inclusive education practices for vulnerable learners, including out of school children and those at risk of dropout.

Reporting and Coordination

Prepare regular activity and monitoring reports for submission to the Education Program Manager.
Maintain accurate records of classroom visits, training sessions, and learner progress data.
Coordinate closely with project staff, teachers, and local education authorities.
Perform other relevant technical tasks assigned by the Education Program Manager or Project Manager.

Safeguarding and PSEA

Ensure adherence to child safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse policies.
Promote awareness of safeguarding standards among teachers, staff, and community members.
Comply with the organization’s zero tolerance policy on sexual misconduct.

Job Requirements:

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field is required.

Experience

Minimum of three years of professional experience in CBE, ECCD, CBS or other education programming, teacher training, or learning support initiatives.
Proven experience delivering training or coaching to teachers or facilitators.
Experience working with remedial, catch up, accelerated learning, or foundational literacy and numeracy programs is highly desirable.
Previous experience with NGO, INGO, or UN and SCI supported education projects is an asset.

Technical Skills

Strong understanding of remedial and catch up education concepts, including foundational literacy and numeracy instruction.
Knowledge of learner assessment, differentiated instruction, and learner centered teaching approaches.
Familiarity with Ministry of Education curricula and basic education standards.
Experience in classroom monitoring, data collection, and reporting.
Basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and reporting tools.

Soft Skills

Strong facilitation, coaching, and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with teachers, learners, and community members.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Flexibility and problem solving skills in challenging field environments.

Language Skills

Fluency in Dari and Pashto is required.
Working knowledge of English is preferred.

Other Requirements

Willingness and ability to travel regularly to field locations within assigned districts.
Commitment to child safeguarding, gender equity, and inclusive education.
Willingness to sign and comply with Child Safeguarding and PSEA policies and complete mandatory reference checks prior to contract issuance.
