Purpose of the position
The Information Technology Manager is responsible for the IT needs of the Bakhtar University, including system installations, maintenance, support and technical consultations to clients. He is responsible for ensuring that standards set by BU are followed and project solutions are the most efficient and cost effective. Responsibilities also include assisting in the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of the LANs (Local Area Networks) Responsible for the setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of client computers and peripherals such as printers and scanners. The role ensures smooth operation of academic and administrative IT services, with particular focus on network security, firewall management (Kerio), and system reliability.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. IT Management & Planning
- Develop and implement IT strategies aligned with the University’s academic and administrative needs.
- Plan, manage, and monitor IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, internet connectivity, and end-user systems
- Prepare IT-related policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines
- Provide basic daily IT support for systems and users for work flow efficiencies.
- Keep Bakhtar University LMS updated and promotion of students at the end of each semester.
- Solve problems and maintain service reports.
B. Network & Firewall Management
- Configure, manage, and maintain Kerio Control Firewall to ensure secure and efficient network operations.
- Monitor network traffic, bandwidth usage, and access control through Kerio.
- Implement and manage VPNs, content filtering, intrusion prevention, and security rules.
- Troubleshoot network and firewall-related issues promptly.
C. Information Security
- Ensure data security, system backups, and disaster recovery plans.
- Enforce cybersecurity best practices and user access controls.
- Monitor and respond to security incidents and vulnerabilities
- Configuration of BU Mail in outlook and taking backup of e-mail.
- Managing BU Computer labs and solving its technical issues so there is no problems for the students.
- Manage, control, and secure all software.
D. Systems & Technical Support
- Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
- Supervise IT support services for academic staff, students, and administrative units.
- Manage email systems, LMS support, and campus-wide IT services
- Printing ID Cards for Students and Staff members.
- Solving of Problems in Classes like VGA, HDMI, and any other graphic issues when connecting to Projectors or LCD’s.
- Local network maintenance and installation including, network/local printers, cabling, switches/ routers and NIC configuration.
- Server and server application maintenance and installation (Hardware integration, Windows 2008, Windows Server 2012).
- Client computer hardware and application installation and configuration, maintenance
- User support.
- Check systems in order to optimize performance and to initiate recovery action after system failures.
- Create and Maintain effective inventory of IT and communication equipment.
- Provide assistance in procurement and evaluation of all IT technical equipment.
- Advise in procurement process and assist with IT Inventory.
- Any other duties assign by supervisor.
E. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare periodic IT performance and security reports for VC Admin and Finance.
- Maintain proper documentation of network configurations, systems, and licenses.
