PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Education Officer supports the Education Project Manager in the effective implementation of education projects, with a strong emphasis on improving teaching quality, classroom practices, and student learning outcomes in schools and Temporary Learning Spaces (TLS). The position ensures that teachers are supported, trained, supervised, and continuously developed to deliver quality education.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teaching Quality Improvement and Academic Support
- Support the improvement of teaching and learning practices in supported schools and TLS through regular classroom observation and follow-up.
- Work closely with Teacher Trainers and Master Trainers to strengthen learner-centered, inclusive, and gender-responsive teaching methodologies.
- Identify gaps in teaching performance and support the development of on-the-job coaching and refresher training for teachers.
- Promote effective lesson planning, classroom management, assessment of learning, and student engagement techniques.
- Support teachers in using approved curricula, teaching guides, and learning materials.
2. Technical Support and Project Implementation
- Under the technical and administrative guidance of the Education Project Manager, support EiE and formal education project planning and implementation, including:
- School and TLS assessments
- Teacher recruitment and deployment
- Teacher training and mentoring
- Awareness sessions for caregivers and communities
- Assist in designing and delivering teacher trainings in line with approved project proposals and education standards.
- Maintain accurate project records, education data, and documentation.
3. Coordination and Community Engagement
- Work closely with the Education Project Manager on all aspects of project implementation.
- Coordinate with District Coordinators and Teacher Trainers to ensure consistent academic supervision of teachers.
- Support community engagement activities, including:
- Establishing and strengthening Community Education Committees or Advisory Boards
- Facilitating community understanding of the importance of quality education and regular attendance
- Coordinate with relevant government stakeholders, including Provincial and District Education Directorates (PED/DED) and the Department of Economy.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Monitor teaching quality and training effectiveness through classroom observations, coaching reports, and feedback tools.
- Support regular monitoring of education activities according to approved work plans and schedules.
- Prepare and submit timely activity, monthly, and quarterly progress reports, focusing on learning outcomes and teaching improvements.
- Ensure proper data collection, verification, filing, and reporting in coordination with MEAL staff.
- Conduct regular and need-based field visits to project sites and schools.
- Share monitoring findings with the Education Project Manager and relevant staff to support continuous improvement.
5. Child Safeguarding and Accountability
- Ensure that child protection, safeguarding, PSEA, and “Do No Harm” principles are fully integrated into all education activities.
- Promote safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments in schools and TLS.
- Support transparent communication with communities and beneficiaries.
6. Adherence to Policies
- Comply with all COAR organizational policies, donor requirements, and national education regulations.
7. Other Duties
- Perform any other education-related tasks assigned by the Line Supervisor.
