Job Descriptions:

The Nutrition Supervisor is responsible for supporting and overseeing the implementation of nutrition services across Nangarhar province, working closely with the Nutrition Specialist and provincial nutrition teams. The role includes supervising provincial nutrition focal points, monitoring the quality of nutrition activities, ensuring regular supply of nutrition commodities, and supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nutrition interventions. The supervisor conducts monthly supervision visits, performs training needs assessments, provides technical guidance to health facility staff, and coordinates with relevant stakeholders for effective service delivery. The position also assists in reviewing progress toward project targets, addressing challenges, supporting community-based screening activities, and maintaining strong teamwork and service quality. This role requires solid technical knowledge in nutrition programs, strong communication skills, and commitment to MHCO’s safeguarding and professional standards.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Keep update with issues related to MHCO and on Nutrition activities in particular
  • Work as a supporter for provincial Nutrition Supervisor and other MHCO health facilities Nutrition staff.
  • Promote an attitude of team spirit and a strong focus on quality among Nutrition staff and other members of the unit for implementing quality Nutrition services.
  • Do related job as delegated by the Nutrition Specialist.
  • To help the nutrition Specialist in provision of comprehensive planning, implementation and supervision of Nutrition activities in the related provinces.
  • To supervise the Provincial Nutrition focal points activities according to the monthly action plan.
  • To assist the nutrition coordinator to communicate and coordinate with UNICEF provincial nutrition extenders to ensure regular Nutrition supply is in place.
  • To ensure that the Provincial Nutrition focal points/ supervise the related HFs once per month.
  • Assist the nutrition Specialist to Analyse, assess and evaluate that Nutrition activities are in accordance to plan and regulations and the targets are achieved.
  • The nutrition Supervisor work with Nutrition Specialist in order to solve any deviation or difficulty on time together with the provincial Nutrition Supervisor and provincial health and nutrition management team.
  • To ensure quality of nutrition services, availability of Nutrition equipment through monthly supervision and support, and report /discuss any unsolved problems with the PM/DPM.
  • Nutrition Supervisor conduct Nutrition TNA for the staff per planed visits and in coordination with provincial nutrition team.
  • The Nutrition Supervisorhelp the nutrition Specialist to cooperate and coordinate with MOPH-PND, UNICEF and WFP at central level and with at provincial level for regular supply of Nutrition commodities and other Nutrition related documents.
  • Provide continuous guidance and technical assistance to the technical staff in the provinces.
  • Conduct regular evaluation of project indicator targets in close coordination with nutrition Specialist to ensure progress occurs.
  • To communicate with Provincial officers in order to ensure that Nutrition training is conducted as per plan for the project staff.
  • Assist the nutrition Specialist to ensure that the volunteers CNM are encouraged and trained on community motivation and mobilization for the successful family based screening of children under five and PLWs for the diagnosis of Malnutrition.
  • To actively contribute to the successful development and good reputation of the MHCO.
  • To do any other tasks, within the MHCO central office and field offices of his or her competence, as assigned by the Nutrition Specialist.

Job Requirements:
  • Education: MD/Public Health prefer to MPH graduates / Midlevel medical education
  • Minimum Medical Doctor 3-year & midecal education medlevel 5 years work experiences with NGO/INGOs at a similar position.
  • Work experience with other health organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work and deal successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Excellent English and Proficient in local languages (Dari and Pashto).
