The Pharmacy Assistant supports the procurement, storage, and management of medicines and medical equipment in compliance with MoPH standards. The role ensures safe transportation, proper storage conditions, inventory management, and quality control of pharmaceuticals within the project pharmacy unit. Responsibilities include assisting in drug procurement, maintaining pharmacy records, preparing reports, coordinating with health facility staff, and supporting rational prescribing practices. The Pharmacy Assistant also provides guidance to medical staff on safe handling and storage of medicines and vaccines, ensures adherence to IPC standards, and contributes to accurate reporting and compliance with MHCO and MoPH guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help on procurement of drugs;
- Prepare a list of those drug/medical equipment companies that are certified by MOPH;
- Assist with the procurement of medical equipment;
- Ensure adherence to MOPH standards, certifications, etc.;
- Ensure quality and certification of drugs once delivered from the main provider;
- Ensure safe transportation of drugs and other equipment to the Provinces, adopting National standards;
- Refreshment training to medical staff on safely storing drugs, vaccines and maintaining the equipment.
- Responsible for pharmacy stock and management of orders from the HFs;
- Prepare pharmacy reports based on project requirements;
- Prepare a data sheet that should include all the required information regards to the drugs storage, drugs amount, transportation and distribution;
- Managing Inventory of project pharmacy unit as per request, in close coordination with Logistics Department;
- Ensure proper storage conditions for medicines, including temperature, hygiene, and security.
- Maintain the pharmacy in a clean, organized, and well-labeled condition.
- Check medicines for expiry dates, damages, and proper packaging.
- Follow infection prevention and control (IPC) standards in the pharmacy area.
- Ensure safe disposal of expired or damaged medicines as per MHCO and MoPH guidelines.
- Complete daily pharmacy registers and consumption reports.
- Support preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly pharmaceutical reports.
- Maintain updated bin/stock cards for all items.
- Assist in preparing drug requests and distribution forms.
- Coordinate with the health facility team to ensure continuous availability of essential medicines.
- Support nurses and doctors in ensuring rational prescribing practices.
- Communicate clearly with patients, especially vulnerable groups, including women, children, and persons with disabilities
