1)TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General description:
CDE, with financial support from the Private Hospital Foundation (FHP) in France, is launching a comprehensive project aimed at supporting reproductive, maternal, and newborn care in three government-run health facilities in the urban areas of Kabul province, Afghanistan. This initiative serves as a pilot project for CDE and will focus on enhancing the RMNCH services at Shiwaki and Buth Khak Comprehensive Health Centre (CHC) as well as providing night shift services at the Gosfand Dara Sub Health Centre (SHC) managed by PUAMI.
Specifically, CDE will oversee the night shift operations of the RMNCH unit at Gosfand Dara SHC, while PUAMI will handle the day shift. The project, scheduled to commence on January 1, 2025, and run until December 30, 2025, In the result of a collaborative effort between CDE, the Kabul provincial public health directorate, health facilities were selected.
2) MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Description:
Responsible for providing high-quality gynecological care at the primary health care facilities. The position will be responsible for providing maternity care at the health facilities according to the MoPH and BPHS guidelines.
Report to: To the in charge of health facility and medical coordinator of CDE
Location: Kabul, Shiwaki and Both Khak
• Management of high-risk and complicated pregnancies, including the provision of appropriate medical services at the health facility level and referral of cases requiring advanced interventions like C-sections, hysterectomies, and more to higher-level facilities.
• Oversight of pre-operative and post-operative care for complicated pregnancy cases, including follow-up and monitoring.
• Conducting assisted deliveries, providing on-the-job training for junior doctors and midwives, and supervising staff in the health facilities.
• Participating in health education sessions, offering consultations to high-risk pregnant mothers during antenatal care, and performing necessary procedures such as normal deliveries and breech extractions when needed.
• Maintaining accountability to patients, fostering a friendly and supportive environment, and adhering to health facility protocols for infection prevention as well as maternal and newborn care guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS).
• Engaging in ongoing training, meetings, and professional development activities, including conducting ultrasound examinations for pregnant women and managing related administrative duties to ensure accurate patient documentation.
• Responding to emergencies obstetric care and being on call during night shifts, weekends, and national holidays to provide essential care, support midwives, and conduct outreach activities as part of the healthcare team.
• Actively participating in health screening initiatives on international health days to promote community well-being and preventive healthcare measures.
• Undertaking any other responsibilities as assigned by supervisors and always ensuring strict adherence to infection prevention protocols.
