2. Background of the Job
The Ministry is currently engaged in managing and supervising gas fields in northern Afghanistan, including activities under the Bazarkhami, Kashkari, Zamarudsay, and related reservoirs.
The Ministry previously partnered with AfgChin under a 25-year contract to develop the Amu Darya oil/gas field. That agreement was terminated due to found repeated breaches of contractual obligations, including failure to meet investment and operational requirements, ignoring contractual standards, and neglecting environmental and capacity-building responsibilities. The Ministry needs technical experts to step in to evaluate site conditions, identify problems, give technical advice, and help restore operations steadily and effectively under government oversight.
The Ministry seeks a qualified Petroleum Engineer to provide technical expertise in production systems, surface facilities, and well operations.
3. Duties and Responsibilities
The Petroleum Engineer will:
- Monitor and optimize daily production from wells and facilities.
- Design and evaluate artificial lift systems and surface production systems.
- Identify production bottlenecks and recommend solutions to improve flow efficiency.
- Collaborate with reservoir engineers on production strategies.
- Conduct well test analyses and production logging interpretation.
- Oversee integrity and performance of pipelines, separators, compressors, and gas treatment facilities.
- Support workover and well intervention operations with technical input.
- Mentor and train Afghan engineers and technicians.
4.Required Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.
- At least 10 years of experience in petroleum production engineering.
- Strong understanding of surface production systems and well operations.
- Experience with gas fields and processing facilities is preferred.
- Familiarity with production optimization tools and nodal analysis software.
- Strong problem-solving and mentoring skills.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Dari or Pashto is an advantage.
5. Compensation and Allowances
- The salary, allowances, and other employment benefits for this international technical position are negotiable and will be determined based on the applicant’s qualifications, experience, and prevailing international standards.
