About Afghanistan National Urban & Rural Development Organization:

ANURDO is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organization whose primary purpose is to encourage the repatriation of refugees and internally displaced persons and the re-establishment of Afghan society and economy by engaging in infrastructure rehabilitation, sustainable development, and local community capacity-building activities. ANURDO is registered under registration number 4216 with the Ministry of Economy, Afghanistan Government.

The primary objective arising from this mission is to encourage repatriation by rehabilitating and constructing rural infrastructure as well as enhancing agricultural production and food availability in the target areas.

The complementary objective is to build capacity for locally directed community development by encouraging the establishment of social structures capable of identifying, evaluating, planning, and implementing solutions to perceived concerns.

Job Descriptions:

We are seeking a motivated and qualified WASH Assistant to support the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in vulnerable and underserved communities. The successful candidate should hold a diploma or bachelor's degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, or a related field, and have at least 1–2 years of relevant experience in WASH activities.

The WASH Assistant will be responsible for supervising the construction of water points, supporting the formation and training of Water User Groups (WUGs), monitoring community participation, conducting field visits and surveys, and ensuring proper documentation and daily reporting. The role also includes coordination with contractors, community leaders, and the WASH Engineer to ensure that all activities are carried out effectively, safely, and in accordance with humanitarian standards and local practices.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, familiarity with rural Afghan communities, and a willingness to travel frequently to field sites are essential. Knowledge of hygiene promotion, basic technical understanding of WASH infrastructure, and computer skills (Word, Excel, Kobo/ODK) are also required. Fluency in Pashto and Dari is necessary; English is an advantage.

Job Requirements:

Minimum of a diploma or degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, Social Sciences, or related field.
At least 1–2 years of relevant work experience in WASH, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
Knowledge of WASH standards.
Familiarity with the Afghan context, especially rural communities and challenges related to water and sanitation access.
Experience working with communities, NGOs, or international organizations is a strong asset.
Good interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
Ability to speak Dari and/or Pashto fluently. Knowledge of English is an advantage.
Willingness to travel frequently to field locations and work in challenging environments.
Ability to work independently and in a team under pressure and tight deadlines.
Basic knowledge of construction/engineering for water and sanitation infrastructure.
Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Kobo/ODK data collection tools).
