Position Summary:
The Midwife is responsible for providing comprehensive maternal and newborn care in a Basic Health Center. This role involves supporting women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, while also promoting reproductive health and education.
Essential Responsibilities And Duties:
Provide focused antenatal care, including counselling and screening tests, and conduct regular antenatal check-ups to monitor the health of pregnant women.
Assist women during labor and delivery, managing both normal and complicated labor using partographs and facilitating referrals in complicated cases.
Manage postpartum mothers and babies, addressing complications in the puerperium and providing postnatal care, including assessments and breastfeeding support.
Conduct initial assessments of new-borns, monitor vital signs, and identify any potential health issues.
Administer vaccinations and ensure new-borns receive necessary immunizations according to health guidelines.
Provide Prevention of Mother-To-Child Transmission (PMTCT) services.
Educate women and families about reproductive health, family planning methods available, and maternal health practices, involving partners and family members in the process.
Participate in community health programs to promote awareness of maternal and child health issues.
Diagnose, monitor, and examine mothers during pregnancy and labour, identifying high-risk pregnancies and making referrals to relevant specialists.
Identify and manage gynaecological conditions as needed.
Manage mothers with incomplete and complete abortions, including performing Manual Vacuum Aspiration (MVA) when required.
Provide counselling in cases of miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality, and neonatal death.
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all patients, including antenatal and postnatal care documentation, and ensure data collection.
Conduct training and continuous medical education for midwife assistants and traditional birth attendants.
Maintain infection control techniques in all aspects of care.
- Community and Professional Engagement:
Counsel, manage, and refer cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in RI’s policies and procedure manuals.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with all RI staff and participate in regular staff meetings.
Conduct oneself both professionally and personally in a manner that reflects positively on RI and supports its humanitarian mission.
Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
