Job Descriptions:

Job Summary

The Linux System Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of Linux-based systems and services. The role includes ensuring system security, performance tuning, and supporting the organization's infrastructure needs, both on-premises and cloud-based.

Keys Responsibilities:

  1. System Administration & Open Source Tools
    • Configure and manage Linux-based systems (Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS, SUSE) and open-source services (LDAP, Samba, DNS, HTTP).
    • Deploy, configure, and manage Linux-based load balancing tools such as HAProxy, Nginx, Keepalived, and LVS.
    • Deploy and maintain open-source monitoring tools (Sensu, Logstash, Kibana, Graphite).
    • Automate tasks using Bash, Python, Ruby, or Perl scripts.
    • Set up hardware, software, and server environments.
    • Set up and manage storage solutions (e.g., LVM, RAID) and network configurations.
  2. Monitoring & Backup
    • Perform daily system and backup monitoring, ensuring data integrity using TSM or open-source backup solutions.
    • Implement and expand distributed monitoring systems for uptime and performance tracking.
  3. Performance & Security
    • Conduct performance tuning and resource optimization.
    • Perform regular security monitoring to identify vulnerabilities and ensure system hardening.
    • Fine-tune configurations to handle high traffic loads while minimizing latency.
  4. User Management & Support
    • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access control.
    • Provide system support and recover from software and hardware failures.
  5. Application Support
    • Install and manage web servers (e.g., Apache, NGINX).
    • Support database servers (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
    • Manage containerized applications using Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  6. Innovation & Open Source Adoption
    • Evaluate and implement new open-source tools for system improvement.
    • Lead efforts in infrastructure upgrades using open-source technologies and frameworks.
    • Deploy and manage virtualized environments using tools like VMware, KVM, or Proxmox.

Maintenance Responsibilities

    • Apply OS patches, upgrades, and update administrative tools/utilities.
    • Configure and add new services as required.
    • Maintain operational procedures and documentation.
    • Perform performance reporting to support capacity planning.
    • Conduct performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
    • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as needed.
    • Maintain and monitor data center environmental equipment.
    • Perform other tasks assigned by the manager.
Job Requirements:

Required Qulifications and Skills:

  1. Education & Certification
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
    • CompTIA Linux+
    • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
    • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
    • Ubuntu Certified Professional (UCP)
  2. Experience
    • 5+ years of experience in a production Linux-based environment & supporting open-source software.
    • Experience with backup & recovery systems.
    • Proven experience in deploying server environments for large-scale organizations.
  3. Technical Skills
    • Proficient in Linux distributions: Ubuntu, RHEL/CentOS, SUSE, Oracle Linux.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Servers and services (AD, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, etc.).
    • Scripting languages: Bash, Ruby, Python, Perl.
    • Monitoring tools: Sensu, Logstash, Graphite, Kibana, Elastic search.
    • Knowledge of IBM hardware: SAN, SAN switches, tape libraries, blade chassis, high-end servers.
    • Strong understanding of networking, DNS, and storage systems.
  4. Other Requirements
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience conducting audits to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
