Position Summary:
We are seeking a qualified, detail-oriented, and experienced Senior Finance Officer to join our mining project team. The Senior Finance Officer will be responsible for managing all financial operations of the project, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget control, compliance with financial regulations, and efficient use of project resources.
The Senior Finance Officer will play a key role in supporting the financial sustainability and operational efficiency of the mining project by ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper financial governance in all activities.
In this context, the Senior Finance Officer is entrusted with the following:
- Ensuring accurate and timely financial management of all mining project transactions;
- Supporting the preparation and monitoring of project budgets, cash flow, and expenditures;
- Preparing financial reports for management and stakeholders;
- Ensuring full compliance with financial laws, tax regulations, and internal policies.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Financial Management and Planning:
- Develop and maintain project budgets in coordination with management;
- Monitor cash flow, operational costs, and capital expenditures;
- Ensure proper allocation and utilization of financial resources.
2. Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Maintain accurate accounting records for all project transactions;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements;
- Reconcile bank accounts and financial records regularly.
3. Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with national financial regulations, tax laws, and donor requirements (if applicable);
- Maintain strong internal control systems to prevent fraud and mismanagement;
- Support internal and external audits.
4. Procurement and Payment Processing:
- Review and process payments, invoices, and financial claims;
- Ensure procurement procedures are followed according to project policies;
- Maintain documentation for all financial transactions.
5. Asset and Inventory Financial Management:
- Track and record project assets, equipment, and mining-related financial assets;
- Ensure proper valuation and depreciation records are maintained.
6. Reporting and Coordination:
- Provide financial reports to project management and stakeholders;
- Work closely with procurement, logistics, and operations teams;
- Support financial decision-making through accurate data and analysis.
Technical Proficiency (Mining Project Context):
1. Mining Sector Financial Understanding:
- Understanding of financial structures in mining projects, including exploration, development, and operational phases;
- Knowledge of capital-intensive budgeting and cost control in mining operations;
- Familiarity with project lifecycle costs and long-term investment planning.
2. Procurement and Equipment Costing:
- Knowledge of procurement processes for mining equipment, machinery, and services;
- Ability to evaluate supplier quotations and cost efficiency;
- Experience in managing large-scale operational expenditures.
3. Compliance and Regulatory Knowledge:
- Understanding of mining-related financial compliance, environmental fees, and government regulations;
- Awareness of labor, tax, and industry-specific legal frameworks.
4. Risk and Financial Analysis:
- Ability to support feasibility studies and financial risk assessments;
- Experience in identifying cost risks and financial inefficiencies in mining projects.
