Afghan Health and Development Services (AHDS) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, and non-political organization founded by Afghans on April 7th, 1990. AHDS is an active member of the Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB), the Agency Coordinating Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), and the Alliance of Health Organizations (AHO). AHDS is one of the first signatories of the Codes of Conduct for NGOs engaged in humanitarian action, reconstruction, and development in Afghanistan.

Job Descriptions:

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Medical Doctor to manage our Basic Health Center at the provincial level. The MD will be responsible for providing high-quality primary healthcare services, leading daily clinical care activities, and ensuring the delivery of comprehensive services to the catchment population . The ideal candidate is a skilled clinician with strong leadership and mentorship abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Care: Provide direct clinical care, manage medical, pediatric, and obstetric emergencies, and ensure appropriate referrals as needed .
Quality Assurance: Oversee the provision of quality care, ensuring consultations and treatments follow clinical protocols, guidelines, and best practices .
Supervision & Mentorship: Provide medical support and on-the-job training to other health facility staff; maintain professional relations and promote team spirit .
Public Health: Provide health and hygiene promotion to patients and caregivers; oversee training of community volunteers .
Administration: Ensure accurate patient documentation, supervise data collection and reporting, and submit timely weekly/monthly/quarterly reports .
Logistics: Ensure regular inventory and consumption tracking of medical drugs and supplies; coordinate prompt requesting of supplies .
Community Engagement: Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local communities and government agencies; represent the program in stakeholder meetings .
Infection Control: Ensure appropriate infection prevention and control measures are in place and monitor staff adherence .
Confidentiality: Ensure patient confidentiality is respected and all consultations are conducted with dignity .

Job Requirements:

Qualified Medical Doctor from a recognized Medical University and licensed to practice by the Ministry of Health (exit test should be passed)
Minimum of 2–3 years of clinical experience in primary health care .
Experience with integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI), clinical management of sexual assault survivors, STIs, and infectious diseases is an advantage .
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good spoken and written English for concise reporting .
Fluency in Pashto, Dari, and English .
Strong team player with ability to work under pressure in stressful environments .
Familiarity with the local context: language, culture, etc. .
Computer skills (MS Word, Excel) are an advantage .
