Job Descriptions:

The WASH Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, supervision, quality assurance, and successful implementation of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure projects. The position ensures that all engineering activities comply with national standards, donor requirements, environmental safeguards, and organizational policies while delivering sustainable WASH services to target communities.

Job Description:

  • Conduct engineering assessments, feasibility studies, and technical surveys.
  • Prepare engineering designs, drawings, technical specifications, and BOQs.
  • Design of Water Supply Networks, Solar Water Supply Systems, Boreholes, Water Reservoirs, Distribution Networks…
  • Review and update engineering documents according to field conditions.
  • Supervise construction activities on project sites.
  • Ensure construction follows approved drawings and technical specifications.
  • Verify contractor work quality and compliance.
  • Monitor construction progress against work plans.
  • Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, government authorities, and communities.
  • Resolve technical issues arising during implementation.
  • Ensure materials comply with approved specifications.
  • Conduct inspection and testing of construction materials.
  • Verify workmanship quality.
  • Prepare site inspection reports.
  • Monitor corrective actions for identified defects.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Support establishment of Water Management Committees (WMCs).
  • Train community members on operation and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with Community Mobilizers and Hygiene Promotion teams.
  • Any other task assigning by the project manager and SMT.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or related field with minimum of five (7) years’ Experience in WASH Related projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of international WASH standards and national construction codes.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience in working with government at national and sub-national levels, UN organizations, or any international development or aid agencies.
  • Experience as a WASH Engineer in WASH infrastructure implementation projects, preferably in humanitarian or rural development settings is required.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Software such as Water GEM, AUTO CAD, Civil 3D. 

Skills:

  • Project management skills: planning, execution, monitoring and control, stakeholder management
  • Soft skills include critical thinking, leadership, communication, and flexibility.
  • Communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Technical skills: Proficiency in the use of surveying equipment, including Total Station, Level Machin, GPS…) and Engineering software.
  • Sound organizational skills and ability to prioritize and deliver assignments in a timely manner often under severe time pressures
  • Strong Leadership, people management, report writing and communication skills

 Language skills:

  • Advanced Proficiency in English and Dari and/or Pashtu (written and spoken)
