Job Descriptions:

The Youth Educator / Life Skills Facilitator is responsible for planning and delivering interactive life skills education and youth development sessions to adolescents and young people. The position promotes positive behaviors, resilience, communication, problem-solving, leadership, health awareness, gender equality, social inclusion, and employability skills through participatory learning approaches. The role supports youth engagement, identifies participants requiring additional support and refers them to appropriate services, maintains accurate activity records, and collaborates with project staff, communities, and relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of youth empowerment and life skills activities in accordance with organizational policies, safeguarding standards, and project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

·       Plan, organize, and facilitate life skills education sessions for adolescents and youth using participatory and learner-centered approaches.

·       Deliver training on communication, decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, emotional regulation, self-confidence, leadership, teamwork, conflict resolution, and other core life skills.

·       Conduct awareness sessions on health, mental well-being, gender equality, protection, social inclusion, civic engagement, and other relevant topics.

·       Develop session plans, learning materials, and training schedules in line with project objectives and approved curricula.

·       Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation and respect for diversity.

·       Identify participants who require psychosocial, protection, health, or other specialized services and refer them through established referral pathways.

·       Monitor participants' attendance, engagement, learning progress, and overall development throughout the training.

·       Provide individual guidance, mentoring, and motivation to help youth achieve their personal, educational, and employment goals.

·       Support the organization of youth engagement activities, community events, campaigns, and peer learning initiatives.

·       Work closely with MHPSS staff, employment support counsellors, vocational trainers, and other project personnel to ensure integrated service delivery.

·       Coordinate with community leaders, schools, families, local authorities, and other stakeholders to promote youth participation and project activities.

·       Maintain accurate participant records, attendance sheets, activity reports, and other project documentation.

·       Collect data and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, assessments, success stories, and project reporting.

·       Ensure all activities are implemented in accordance with organizational policies, child safeguarding, PSEA, confidentiality, and ethical standards.

·       Report implementation progress, challenges, risks, and lessons learned to the supervisor and recommend appropriate solutions.

·    Participate in project meetings, capacity-building activities, and other duties assigned by the supervisor to support successful project implementation.

Job Requirements:

Qualification:

·       Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Community Development, Public Health or another relevant experience in the filed

·       A diploma in a related discipline may be considered with substantial relevant experience.

 

Experience:

·       Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in facilitating life skills education, youth development, non-formal education, community mobilization, or adolescent and youth-focused programs with NGOs, INGOs, UN agencies, or other development organizations.

·       Prior experience in team supervision, capacity building, and fostering professional relationships.

·       Demonstrated experience in designing and facilitating participatory training sessions for adolescents and young people.

·       Familiarity with community-based approaches, including beneficiary selection, accountability mechanisms, and safeguarding practices.

·       Good understanding of adolescent development, positive youth engagement, gender equality, social inclusion, safeguarding, and protection principles.

·       Knowledge of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Psychological First Aid (PFA), or referral mechanisms is an asset.

·       Have relative experience working with reporting and data collection tools such as Kobo, Survey Monkey, Google forms etc. 

Skills and Abilities:

·       Strong understanding of local contexts, including cultural and political dynamics in Afghanistan.

·       Proficiency in English, Dari and Pashto. Proficiency in other languages will be considered a plus point.

·       Strong reporting, presentation, training facilitation, and budgeting skills.

Strong inter-personal and communication skills, ability to work under stressful conditions, and able to meet tight deadlines.
