Job Porpuse
The purpose of the position Livestock Extension Officer is to plan and implement the technical aspects related to Dairy and
Livestock. She/he will be required to work in close coordination with Livestock keepers to provide technical services including
livestock health management, feed and fodder production and management, milk production and processing techniques and
technologies to assist smallholder dairy farmers improve their production and productivity. The livestock extension officer will
work closely with service providers at the local level such as agriculturist, para-vets, BVWs and VFUs to ensure livestock services
are provided to smallholder dairy farmers while working with the District level stakeholders such as DAIL other public extension
agents in order to design and innovative extension services and support. S/he Supervises (four) Community Based Facilitators
and will be reportable to FSL Field Program Coordinator/Manager with close communication and liaison with the (FSL Sector
Lead) and guidance of Zonal manager.
Minimum Requirments
Training livestock beneficiaries on livestock rearing
· Assess communities’ awareness level regarding livestock
· keeping and provide necessary information/on the job training
· Improve the social skills of the women in the target areas
· Instruct project participants on medicine usages and administration of vaccine for livestock disease prevention
· Keep clinical records of livestock and provide necessary reports
· Follow up vaccination seasons and keep project participants knowledge updated
· Instruct women on personal and environmental hygiene, water sanitation, milk processing and health care issues
· Conduct continuous monitoring of livestock production,
· status of coops and stables and livestock treatment process
· Coordinate plans and activities of livestock centers
· Contribute in livestock purchasing, distribution process, livestock feed stuff and other related activities
· Assist in referral process of sick livestock from WVA targeted communities to Veterinary Field Unit (VFU)
· Strengthen communities’ contribution toward project implementation
· Facilitate formation of livestock self-help and savings for transformation groups at the communities Monitor and support the activities of the self-help groups
· Facilitate group gatherings/meetings schedule/ organize group meeting
· Support in training of project participants on livestock related topics
· Technical trainings on Livestock planned, and delivered
· Knowledge and Skills of project participants enhanced in livestock management
· Communities mobilized and strengthened in Livestock management SHGs are formed and functioned
Building Relationship:
· Be responsible for maintaining and strengthening relationships with key partners through close coordination with project Manager, especially Department of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock at the province level.
· Ensure smooth networking with other actors involved in
· livelihood/food security sector at local and higher levels as appropriate.
· Conduct regular meetings with targeted livestock keepers and ensure proper coordination network is established
· Linkage with head of community centers and report on their behalf to Field Supervisor
· Establish linkage mechanism with Veterinary Field Unit (VFU)
· Provide the quarterly and annual livelihood Plan/reports and check with FSL Field Program Coordinator/Manager and (FSL Sector Lead).
· Close relationships with related stakeholders in particular DAIL and Livestock doers are established and
· maintained
· Timely implementation of activities
· Timely production and submission of progress report
Planning, Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation:
· Conduct identification survey of the project participants
· Assist in conducting surveys, Value chain analysis, Focus
· Group Discussion (FGD) or research related to livestock
· Collect project related data and information
· Participate in participatory need assessment at community level
· Apply “Do No Harm” theory at any project interventions
· Work according to community cultures and norms
· Ensure that no discrimination has been made among the different classes people in the communities
· Record project lessons learned and challenges and report them to the Field Supervisor
· Ensure ideal behavior is promoted among project participants
· Contribute monitoring process in the target communities.
· Submit necessary documents to field supervisor
· Submit necessary reports to the Supervisor in a timely manner
· To perform other job-related tasks assigned by supervisor as and when required
· Timely submission of reports
· Routine monitoring conducted in coordination with the MEAL department
· Lessons learned, best practices shared widely with Donor, peer agencies, FSAC and governmental line departments
