OHW is operating since 2007 in the country with active membership with the national clusters and international donor agencies in Afghanistan including SWABAC, ACBAR, AICS, BAAG, AWN and most of the national and international Clusters operates based in Afghanistan.

Job Summary

The Agriculture Extension Worker is responsible for providing technical support, training, and extension services to farmers and project beneficiaries. The role focuses on promoting improved agricultural practices, increasing crop productivity, enhancing food security, and supporting the effective implementation of agriculture-related project activities at the community level.

Key Responsibilities:

Agricultural Extension and Training

·         Provide agricultural extension services and technical advice to farmers and beneficiary households.

·         Conduct training sessions, demonstrations, and Farmer Field Schools (FFS) on improved agricultural practices.

·         Promote climate-smart agriculture, sustainable farming techniques, and good agricultural practices (GAP).

·         Train farmers on crop production, soil management, irrigation techniques, integrated pest management (IPM), and post-harvest handling.

·         Support farmers in adopting new agricultural technologies and practices.

Project Implementation

·         Assist in the implementation of agriculture-related project activities according to approved work plans.

·         Support beneficiary identification, registration, verification, and selection processes.

·         Facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, tools, and equipment.

·         Ensure activities are implemented in accordance with project objectives, donor requirements, and organizational policies.

Field Monitoring and Technical Support

·         Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop performance and project activities.

·         Identify agricultural challenges faced by farmers and provide practical solutions.

·         Monitor the proper utilization of distributed agricultural inputs.

·         Collect data on crop production, farming practices, and project outcomes.

 

Community Mobilization and Coordination

·         Mobilize communities and encourage participation in agricultural activities and training programs.

·         Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, agricultural departments, and other stakeholders.

·         Facilitate community meetings and awareness sessions related to agriculture and livelihoods.

Reporting and Documentation

·         Maintain accurate records of training sessions, field visits, beneficiary data, and project activities.

·         Prepare weekly, monthly, and activity reports.

·         Document lessons learned, best practices, success stories, and challenges.

·         Support surveys, assessments, monitoring visits, and evaluations.

Compliance and Safeguarding

·         Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor regulations, and project guidelines.

·         Promote accountability, transparency, safeguarding, and protection principles in all activities.

·         Ensure inclusive participation of women, youth, and vulnerable groups in project interventions.

Job Requirements:

·         Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agricultural Extension, Rural Development, or a related field.

·         Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in agricultural extension services, rural development, or agriculture projects.

·         Experience working with NGOs, humanitarian, or development organizations is preferred.

Required Skills and Competencies

·         Strong knowledge of crop production, soil management, irrigation, and pest management.

·         Experience in farmer training, facilitation, and community mobilization.

·         Good monitoring, data collection, and reporting skills.

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

·         Ability to work effectively with rural communities.

·         Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

·         Ability to travel frequently to project sites.

·       Fluency in Pashto and/or Dari; basic knowledge of English is an advantage.
