Goal
Preparation and distribution of formula milks (F 75,F 100, F100D and RUTF) to the admitted children in the centre according to the guideline/standard protocol. Supporting the caretakers on care practice
Objective 1: Mix the milk according to the look up tables provided in the guideline
- Closely Communicate with the nurse/Supervisor to identify the treatment phase and type of milk to give to the child.
- Calculate the formula of the milks F75 and F100 according to the protocol.
- Use the look up tables properly to all types of therapeutic foods (F75, F100, RUTF) per recommended number of feeds.
- Respect good hygiene
Objective 2: Distribute the food and supervise the meals :
- Ask the mothers to breast feed their children before the meal; for the SST ask the mother to breast feed 30 mn befor the meal time
- Check the preparation of the formula ;
- Feed the patients on time, in the groups and start with those who are most at risk. ;
- For the SST, support the mothers for the good position of the tube, glass and support on BF time
- Observe each group before passing to the next and make sure that the mothers hold and feed their children correctly;
- Check that the patient is given water each time with the RUTF he is thirsty and evaluate the quantity of water absorbed during the meal ;
Objective 3: Ensure all the milk is taken by the children properly at each phases; Ensure hygiene and sanitation of milk preparation and storage areas with the cleaner
- Monitor the quantity taken by the child and report it to the nurse/ supervisor if further action is needed.
- Wash and disinfect the room.
- Wash the recipients, pots and utensils for the preparation of premix ;
- Check the rate of chlorine in the water.
- Keep the left over milk in safe and clean place
Objective 4: Participate to the measurement
- At careening, admission and on daily base participle to the measurement of the children
Objective 5: Support on care practice
- Provide Food preparation: complementary feeding, balance food, Mode of preparation, food storage and hygiene health education session and practice:
§ Care for women:During pregnancy and breastfeeding, reproductive and mental health, work load and education
§ Hygiene: Personal, children and home hygiene
§ Breastfeeding and feeding practices...Exclusive breastfeeding, weaning, complementary food, active feeding practices (are they suitable for the child’s psychomotor skills?), adaptation to the family feeding practice (intra-family sharing of food, response in case of scarce appetite of the child
§ Psychosocial care: Adaptation to the developmental steps of the child, attention, affection, autonomy, encouragement of exploration and learning, protection against violence and bad behaviours.
Objective 6: Reporting to the nurse
- Prepare Daily/weekly/monthly reports and submit to the supervisor on time
- Participate on technical orientation sessions to other health personnel in the centre.
