Job Purpose:
The P&O Technician operates within the organizational structure of Handicap International (HI), adhering strictly to the Terms and Conditions of Engagement for National Staff and the Internal Regulations. Under the direct supervision of the P&O Technical Supervisor, the technician is responsible for the clinical assessment, casting (negative and positive), production, modification, and quality control of all types of prosthetic and orthotic devices. The role ensures high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered service delivery while maintaining exact administrative and inventory records
The Duties and responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
· To make negative and positive cast for all kind of Prosthetics and Orthotics. Control the quality of the Prosthetics and Orthotics appliances respecting the cost-effective manner.
· To produce all types of Prosthesis & Orthotic devices and maintain effective communication with all patients regardless of disability or gender respecting the privacy.
· Follow and respect policies and procedures of workshop laid down by the management.
· To take part in male consultation with PT in the selection of Prosthetics and orthotics devise for patients if needed
· Assess a person's need for appliances so as to confirm and/or complete a prescription for an orthopedic device.
· Taking all necessary measurements/cast prints for the manufacture of required orthopaedic appliances.
· In consultation with the P&O Supervisor, make necessary changes in techniques of Prosthetics and Orthotics production in order to adapt new skills and upgrade techniques.
· To do all types of repair related to the Production of its section.
· To follow the schedule and respect production timing
· To work in close collaboration with the P&O supervisor and inform regularly about the activity of the P&O services and any problems arising in the department
· To supervise the maintenance and ensure the good use of the appliances
· To keep accurate record of the production, repair, remaining and delivery
· To update and follow closely the related stock cards
· When required help the P&O Supervisor for preparation of the monthly report about the activities, problems, solutions etc.
· To help the P&O Supervisor make weekly order for Prosthetics and Orthotics production from the stock on Thursdays or when required
· To write down technical cards for P&O devices in patient consultation when required
· To follow the codes of tools & equipment’s of its department and inform P&O Supervisor when a code of an item removes
· To inform P&O Supervisor on time when a tool or equipment is changed from its department
· Ensure the training, evaluation and follow up of the person with the appliance, by performing the necessary technical checks, initial standing and gait training, providing information about the use, maintenance, repair and the replacement times of appliance. Involving the caregivers and patient family in the treatment process.
· To follow maintain instructions of machines
· To help the counterparts when he/she is busy
· To respect and follow Head of technical department’s advice
· To inform P&O Supervisor at least one week before if he wants to take annual leave
Responsibilities as a trainee:
· To participate in any internal and external trainings required and requested by the P&O Supervisor To provide on job training to other technicians/technician assistant when required
· To train the patients and/or family how to use and maintain the devices
Other Responsibilities:
· To share information and exchange ideas with other Technicians and Technician Assistants
· When required assist other staff
· To help other departments in the production when required in the consultation of P&O Supervisor To be responsible of cleaning his work place and machinery at the end of each day
· To participate in weekly or monthly meetings
· To keep a good relationship with the team
· To attend HI meetings on request
· Any other tasks not mentioned in the terms of reference and based on the requisition/ requirements of the project should be fulfilled by the employee when requested by the PRC P&O Supervisor and/or Project Manager.

· Clearly communicate treatment options, potential risks, and expected outcomes to patients and their families.

· Maintain clear and professional boundaries with patients, ensuring a respectful and therapeutic relationship.

· Handle conflicts professionally, seeking resolution through appropriate channels.
· Uphold the highest ethical and professional standards in all aspects of P/O practice.
Multidisciplinary Team Approach and Referral
· Actively participate in a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with healthcare professionals such as Doctors, other Physiotherapist, MHPSS worker, social workers, P&O Technician and other relevant team members.
· Integrate input from other disciplines to create comprehensive and coordinated care plans.
· Ensure that patients receive comprehensive and integrated care that addresses their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
· Facilitate the referral process within the multidisciplinary team, ensuring seamless transitions between different healthcare services.
· Provide timely and relevant information to other team members for effective patient management.
Responsibilities may evolve as per programmatic needs and adapting to local circumstances. It is expected that the position holder will perform any other duties as required by the Line Manager that are commensurate with the position.
