Job Descriptions:

The System Administrator is responsible for the end-to-end management and security of the ISP’s core network infrastructures, including firewalls, routers, switches, and servers across multiple sites. This role supports customers by ensuring stable internet connectivity and reliable service through precise configuration, continuous monitoring, and rapid incident resolution. It also ensures maximum network uptime and peak performance across the infrastructure. Key responsibilities include managing link provisioning, bandwidth allocation, IP address management, and collaboration with upstream providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1.      Network Infrastructure & Security
  • Install, configure, and maintain core routers, switches, and firewalls, ensuring scalability and adaptability to future growth.
  • Oversee the operation and firmware updates of primary and secondary firewalls across Main Office and Provincial sites, ensuring optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor spanning tree protocols on switches, ensuring data flows through primary point-to-point links and addressing any issues.
  • Protect CPE and PTP devices from external network attacks by blocking unauthorized ports and ensuring secure network access.
  • Identify customer bandwidth over-usage through weekly monitoring via Cacti servers, apply traffic shaping on CPE devices if limiters fail, and ensure no customer exceeds their contracted bandwidth.

2.     Link & Bandwidth Management

  • Process link activations, upgrades, downgrades, and suspensions through CRM and coordination with the collections department, ensuring seamless integration with core firewall systems.
  • Administer the firewall system dedicated to hotspot users, generating new accounts and allocating bandwidth based on user requirements.
  • Record customers’ day and night bandwidth usage and update the records daily; monitor to prevent overload during peak hours, and request bandwidth upgrades for the main office and branches as needed.
  • Manage firewall time schedulers for day and night bandwidth allocations, optimizing network usage.
  • Oversee demo internet link connections, ensuring customer satisfaction during trial periods.
  • Administer customer requests for temporary bandwidth upgrades, ensuring seamless service delivery.

3.     Server & System Maintenance

  • Conduct monthly HDD diagnostics on the primary server, ensuring data security and system health.
  • Maintain and update the Primary and Secondary Cacti servers to ensure better functionality and apply available updates.
  • Monitor UCRM server health and apply updates as they become available.
  • Monitor NTP server health, specifically for PTP, CPE, and the bandwidth scheduler.
  • Maintain EMCO server IP addresses and register new PTP and PTMP links for the alerting system in case of downtime.

4.     IP & Device Management

  • Update IP allocation sheets for Main office and provincial branches, including devices license keys.
  • Monitor the locations of high-capacity devices and their connected base stations.
  • Maintain records of customers and sites’ equipment serial numbers for asset record.

5.     Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Identify and resolve WAN, LAN, and WLAN issues promptly to maintain network stability.
  • Utilize Intermapper to assess microwave device capacities, ensuring no device is overloaded.
  • Update and monitor the WLAN virtualized Layer 2 map for new sector and switch installations, ensuring all PTP devices operate above 10 Mbps LAN speed by actively monitoring the alerting system.
  • Oversee the number of tickets created and closed by System/Helpdesk officers, ensuring timely and satisfactory resolution of technical issues.

6.     Customer Support & Collaboration

  • Collaborate quarterly with the collections department to reconcile active customer bandwidth allocations, including day and night usage.
  • Provide online support to team members and customers for any technical-related issues, ensuring prompt resolution.
  • Upstream Coordination: Serve as the primary liaison with upstream providers to diagnose and resolve link issues promptly, staying engaged until full resolution to ensure uninterrupted service.

7.     Compliance & Web Filtering

  • Continuously monitor web filter subnets and liaise with upstream providers to block URLs flagged by ATRA, ensuring permanent enforcement in full compliance with its official directives.

           8.     Additional Duties

  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by management to support network operations and service delivery.
Job Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree in a related major field.

  • With a Bachelor’s degree: minimum of 5 years’ experience in system or network administration; with a Master’s degree: minimum of 3 years, preferably within an ISP environment.

  • CCNA and CCNP certifications are highly preferred.

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco, MikroTik, and Ubiquiti (UBQT) devices.

  • Advanced knowledge of network protocols, including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and PPPoE.

  • Deep understanding of network security best practices and compliance with regulatory directives (e.g., ATRA).

  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues efficiently under pressure.

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in Dari, Pashto, and English.
