Job Descriptions:

Job Summary:

The Psychosocial Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group counseling to children and caregivers, conducting social investigations, and delivering training on child development and parenting. The role includes supporting social workers and CFS staff, implementing psychoeducational programs, and monitoring Child-Friendly Spaces. The Counselor also conducts home visits, raises awareness among caregivers, coordinates with mental health services, and prepares regular reports on referred cases. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Job Description:

  • Provide psychological support (one on one or group counseling) to the project target groups
  • Undertake the social investigation about each individual child case and ensure that all related information is collected properly through reliable sources. 
  • Conduct training for the community on psychological child development and parenting skills, etc.
  • Provide counseling training and technical counseling support to social workers, volunteers, community structures, CFS facilitators directly involved with the psychosocial component of the project. 
  • Develop and implement psychoeducational programs focusing on topics such as anger management, stress reduction, self-esteem building, and coping skills.
  • Monitoring the child-friendly spaces for ensuring adequate child protection services. 
  • Ensure timely implementation of psychosocial support activities for affected children. 
  • Coordinate services to beneficiaries with other organizational entities involved in psychosocial and mental health services. 
  • Conduct home visits to assess individual psychosocial needs. 
  • Conduct weekly awareness raising session for caregivers.
  • Develop a plan to follow up the referred cases.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly counseling reports on the referred cases and provide the best solutions to cases. 
  • Perform any other professional duty assigned to the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 2-4 years of experience providing psychosocial support in child protection programs, with a focus on VAC prevention and response.
  • Strong experience in counseling, case management, and working with at-risk children in challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of referral systems, protection protocols, and best practices in psychosocial support for children.
  • Skills and Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and psychosocial counseling techniques.
  • Strong communication, training, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive cases with empathy, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with data collection and case management tools is an asset.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to project sites in challenging environments as needed.
  • Commitment to child protection, and ADWSO’s mission.
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with strong English language skills (written and spoken).
