1. The project aims to enhance food security, income generation, and climate resilience through orchard establishment and agroforestry practices. The Orchard Expert will provide technical leadership in orchard design, species selection, planting, and capacity building of local stakeholders, with a focus on sustainability and gender inclusion.
2. Objective:
To design and implement climate-resilient orchard models suitable for local agro-ecological zones.
To build capacity of field staff, farmers, and female beneficiaries in orchard management
To ensure technical quality and sustainability of orchard interventions.
3. Scope of Work
The Orchard Expert will be responsible for:
Technical Design and Implementation
Conduct site assessments and recommend suitable fruit tree species.
Conduct Beneficiary Profile Survey (BPS), by ensure door-to-door survey using Kobocollect tools
Develop orchard layout plans, spacing, irrigation, and soil preparation guidelines.
Oversee procurement and quality control of saplings and inputs.
Provide technical supervision during planting and maintenance phases.
Capacity Building and Training to beneficiaries
Develop training materials and conduct sessions for farmers, mobilizers, and female social organizers.
Promote integrated pest management, pruning, grafting, and post-harvest handling techniques.
Mentor field teams on orchard monitoring and data collection.
Gender and Inclusion:
Ensure orchard models are accessible and manageable for women beneficiaries.
Collaborate with female social organizers to adapt training and orchard designs to local norms.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Develop orchard monitoring tools and contribute to progress reports.
Document lessons learned and best practices for scale-up.
4. Deliverables
Orchard design plans and species recommendations for target districts that are already specified
Training sessions conducted and materials developed.
Monthly technical progress reports.
Final report summarizing achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
