Project background:

The project’s global objective is to achieve greater resilience, food security, livelihoods, and stability for 300,000 households, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable groups, including minorities, IDPs, and returnees, thereby curbing the drivers of forced displacement. The specific objectives are (i) Enhance economic opportunities by strengthening livelihoods of livestock value chain actors—including women, youth, returnees, minorities, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) through improved production, income-generating activities, and increased market access across 17 provinces, targeting 300,000 households; (ii) compliment and strengthen resilience at house hold level by promoting climate-smart agriculture, sustainable resource management, and local capacity building, achieving improved social inclusion against the project baseline over project duration period of 4 years; (iii) Promote the Afghan Cashmere and Wool value chain through certification under international standards, improved competitiveness, and enhanced market access, benefiting 16,000 households

Project Outcomes:

Outcome 1: Increased economic opportunities for 300,000 households (including women, youth, returnees, minorities, and PWDs) through strengthened livestock value chains, improved production, income generation, and market access in 17 provinces.

Outcome 2: Improved household resilience via climate-smart agriculture, sustainable resource management, and local capacity building, with measurable gains in social inclusion over four years.

Outcome 3: Promote the Afghan Cashmere and Wool value chain through certification under international standards, improved competitiveness, and enhanced market access, benefiting 16,000 households.

Job Descriptions:

Position Summary

The District Cashmere and Wool Trainer supports the implementation of cashmere and wool project activities at the district level by delivering practical trainings, field demonstrations, and technical support to herders, farmers, and primary processors. The position focuses on improving quality, production practices, traceability, and certification at the community level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field-based trainings and demonstrations on cashmere and wool harvesting/shearing, animal husbandry, primary processing, quality improvement, and traceability.
  • Support herders, farmers, and primary processors in applying improved and ethical cashmere and wool production practices.
  • Assist in implementing project activities at the district level according to approved work plans.
  • Support data collection, monitoring, and reporting of training activities and field progress.
  • Maintain regular coordination with the Provincial Trainer and Program Officer.
  • Support consultants and certification activities at the field level when required.
  • Responsible for project-related input distribution.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with targeted communities and local stakeholders.
  • Participate in district-level meetings and coordination forums related to the project.
  • Identify field challenges and share practical solutions and lessons learned with supervisors.
  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by the line manager.
Job Requirements:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in veterinary science, Agriculture, Livestock, Animal Husbandry, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in livestock extension, training, or value chain development.
  • Basic knowledge of cashmere and wool production systems.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills at the community level.
  • Ability to work independently in field conditions.
