About INTERSOS:

Over the past few years, Afghanistan has witnessed a relative improvement in security and stability across much of the country. This has allowed humanitarian actors like INTERSOS to maintain uninterrupted access and expand services in areas that were previously hard to reach. Despite this progress, the humanitarian situation remains critical, with millions of Afghans continuing to face acute vulnerabilities due to prolonged economic hardship, natural disasters, and limited access to essential services.

In 2025, more than half of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance, with food insecurity, child malnutrition, and displacement remaining key concerns. Natural disasters, such as floods and recent earthquakes, have further compounded the needs of already struggling communities.

INTERSOS continues to operate through a community-based approach with field bases in Kabul, Kandahar, and Zabul, delivering primary healthcare, nutrition, and protection services with a focus on women, children, and persons with disabilities. The organization enjoys strong community acceptance and collaborates closely with relevant national authorities, including maintaining the full participation of female staff in all activities.

While the operational environment is largely stable and conducive, funding shortfalls and systemic barriers such as restrictions on financial flows and administrative bottlenecks continue to impact the scope and scale of humanitarian response. Sustained support is crucial to ensure the continuity of life-saving services and to address the urgent needs of Afghanistan’s most vulnerable populations.

Job Descriptions:

is responsible for supporting the Security officer regarding all matters relating to Access and security within office.

 

In addition, the AOA assistant is part of the Kabul office and reports to Security officer in all matters pertaining to the day-to-day running of the office such as working hours, movement, participation in meetings etc. Together, the ASA and the SO form the main communication channel for all access-related information between the field office in Kabul.

General position Description

Access and Resilience Assistant (ASA) is responsible for supporting the Security officer (SO) regarding all matters relating to security and access within Kabul office they have been assigned. ASA carries out their allocated tasks as listed below and reports directly to the SO.

 

  • Carry out all the duties and tasks as defined below, or as instructed by the DM or Area manager.
  • Movements tracking.
  • Communicate security-related information to and from the SO following pre-defined communication channels.
  • Monitor the keeping of security rules, the implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the Contingency Plans (CPs) preparedness and inform the SO and the Access and security coordinator of any shortcomings or necessary changes to the procedures.
  • Support to the SO to regularly check the state of all equipment necessary for security at the field office and in case of shortages, follow up with the SO and ASC.
  • Provide up-to-date and accurate security-related information and analysis to the SO and ASC.
  • To manage the Guards shifts and act as focal point for the guards towards the Security officer.
  • Movement tracking.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

 

Regular tasks in detail:

 

The list below details the main tasks and responsibilities:

 

General communication, incident reporting & emergency communication:

 

  • Maintain contact with the field every one hour via Internet Keeping up with trips along the day till they come back.
  • To monitor incidents in INTERSOS operational areas and to advise the field teams about areas to avoid, or withdrawing teams from villages etc.
  • To respond to emergency events by attending incidents, where safe to do so, to support INTERSOS staff who may be affected.
  • Maintain the fire equipment and first aid kits in the vehicles and offices. ASA is to order replacement equipment and supplies as required. 

 

Staff location & movement awareness :

  • Responsible for the tracking trips to keep the SO and ASC and the area manager posted for any updates of the field movement.
  • To activate emergency procedures in the event that they have not heard after a designated period to time.
  • Making sure that all the staff have the proper communication tools and updating their phone numbers when needed, and report violations.
  • Maintaining and updating a communication list includes the main emergency services (at least once a month).
  • Implement the (Field Movement): a weekly check of vehicles, keeping a communication protocol with the field teams.

Other duties:

  • Tracking the daily cars movements.
  • Contact the daily trips to assure their safety.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the Office by screening visitors at main gate of the Office (no weapons allowed), check if the visitor is announced, register and escort them inside the premises.
  • Ensure for the safety and security of INTERSOS staff.
  • Report any incident or abnormal events in and outside of the compound to supervisor.
  • Fill visitor's logbook, generator logbook and conduct other logistics-administrative support tasks if requested by the supervisor.
  • Available to work over holidays and at night (shift and rotation system).
  • Attend training courses when organized and requested relevant to safety and security.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements:

University or Baccalaureate degree (12th graduated).

2+ years of relevant experience as security Assistant.

English, Pashto and Dari skills are required.

Previous experience working for an international NGO is preferable.
