About INTERSOS:

Over the past few years, Afghanistan has witnessed a relative improvement in security and stability across much of the country. This has allowed humanitarian actors like INTERSOS to maintain uninterrupted access and expand services in areas that were previously hard to reach. Despite this progress, the humanitarian situation remains critical, with millions of Afghans continuing to face acute vulnerabilities due to prolonged economic hardship, natural disasters, and limited access to essential services.

In 2025, more than half of the population is in need of humanitarian assistance, with food insecurity, child malnutrition, and displacement remaining key concerns. Natural disasters, such as floods and recent earthquakes, have further compounded the needs of already struggling communities.

INTERSOS continues to operate through a community-based approach with field bases in Kabul, Kandahar, and Zabul, delivering primary healthcare, nutrition, and protection services with a focus on women, children, and persons with disabilities. The organization enjoys strong community acceptance and collaborates closely with relevant national authorities, including maintaining the full participation of female staff in all activities.

While the operational environment is largely stable and conducive, funding shortfalls and systemic barriers such as restrictions on financial flows and administrative bottlenecks continue to impact the scope and scale of humanitarian response. Sustained support is crucial to ensure the continuity of life-saving services and to address the urgent needs of Afghanistan’s most vulnerable populations.

 

Job Descriptions:

The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Department under the direct supervision of the Finance Officer. The role ensures effective, efficient, and accurate financial operations in line with INTERSOS and donor procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily mission or base accounting transactions, submitting the updated Journal (PN) daily to the Finance Manager/Officer.
  • Verify completeness of procurement and payment documentation (PRs, procurement procedures, etc.), ensuring compliance with INTERSOS and donor rules before processing payments, and avoid delays.
  • Review working advances and clearances with logistics and program managers weekly, ensuring supporting documents are in order.
  • Handle the office cash safe and daily cash management, ensuring cash is safeguarded, counted, and reconciled daily, weekly, and monthly in line with INTERSOS procedures.
  • Sending the Financial documents (hard copies) to the Kandahar Office monthly, ensuring compliance and completeness, and following up on any missing requirements.
  • Record transactions in the field journal daily.
  • Support the Finance Officer and Finance Manager during audits, including the collection, organization, and submission of backup documents.
  •  Perform any other tasks as requested by the Finance Manager/Officer.
Job Requirements:
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • Experience in finance, administration, or document management preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and PDF management tools.
  • Ability to handle confidential documents with integrity.
  • Previous INGO experience (minimum 1 year) is desirable.
  • Fluency in English and local languages essential.
