Job Descriptions:

The psychosocial counselor is responsible for providing psychological counseling services to individuals in need. The role operates under the direct supervision of the Health Center Head and collaborates with other sections to improve the delivery of healthcare services.

The Psychosocial Counselor:

    • Provide appropriate and quality psychological counseling services to clients and patients referred by physicians.
    • Regularly complete and maintain the counseling register book, ensuring all provided services and advice are documented for each client.
    • Assist physicians in categorizing and examining patients.
    • Coordinate with various departments within the health center, including Vaccination, Maternal and Child Health, and others to enhance healthcare services.
    • Actively participate in health education sessions.
    • Prepare and submit monthly reports detailing all activities performed within the counseling unit.
    • Ensure proper usage and maintenance of all equipment and tools safely and effectively.
    • Collaborate with Community Health Workers (CHWs) to boost service delivery levels.
    • Possess adequate knowledge of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and apply it in practice.
    • Routinely record and maintain client files in an organized and systematic way.
    • Achieve set targets and deliver expected outcomes.
    • Perform any additional tasks assigned by the relevant supervisor
Job Requirements:
  • Minimum qualification of a diploma or bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, or mental health.
  • Advanced certification or specialization in psychosocial support, trauma-informed care, or related areas is an asset.
  • At least 2 years of experience in providing mental health or psychosocial counseling within a clinical setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS).
  • Ability to assess psychological needs, deliver effective counseling, and maintain confidential client records
  • Good Communication skills
  • Fluent in Dari and Pashtu, and working knowledge of English
  • Ability to create a supportive working relationship with other staff.
