Job Summary:
The Field Engineer / WASH Engineer is responsible for the technical supervision, assessment, and field-level monitoring of WASH infrastructure activities in both Healthcare Facilities (HCFs) and communities. This includes the design and implementation oversight of water supply and sanitation systems, conducting field and lab-based water quality testing, preparing BoQs and technical documentation, and ensuring that all interventions adhere to national and international WASH and IPC standards.
The role involves frequent travel to remote districts, including hard-to-reach areas, and requires strong coordination with contractors, local stakeholders, and community members.
Tasks
1. Field Monitoring & Supervision
- Conduct regular monitoring of WASH construction and rehabilitation work in HCFs and community for water points and WASH infrastructure.
- Supervise contractor activities to ensure compliance with technical specifications, BoQs, and project timelines.
- Ensure adherence to safety measures, environmental considerations, and quality standards on-site.
2. Assessments and Surveys
- Carry out WASH infrastructure assessments in healthcare and community locations across target districts.
- Identify technical needs and propose context-appropriate solutions.
- Support community mobilization during assessments and contribute to planning documents.
3. Design & BoQ Development
- Prepare and validate technical designs and drawings for water supply, sanitation, and hygiene structures in both HCFs and communities.
- Develop accurate BoQs and technical specifications in accordance with project needs and local standards.
- Ensure all designs comply with SPHERE, WHO, IPC, and national engineering standards.
4. Water Quality Testing
- Conduct water quality tests (chemical, physical, and bacteriological) using field kits and laboratory methods.
- Analyze results and provide recommendations for water treatment or system improvements.
- Maintain and archive test results for monitoring and reporting purposes.
5. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare detailed site visit reports, construction progress updates, and photo documentation.
- Contribute to internal and donor reports with technical inputs on infrastructure status and quality.
- Participate in regular project coordination meetings and technical review sessions.
