Job Descriptions:
The Community Engagement Social Mobilizer will be responsible for implementing grassroots-level community mobilization and social behavior change communication (SBCC) activities to improved nutrition, health, and hygiene practices in the targeted communities of Paktika province. Working under the direct supervision of the Community Engagement Promotion Officer, the Social Mobilizer will serve as a key link between communities and project teams, ensuring active participation, inclusive dialogue, and the adoption of recommended practices among women of reproductive age, adolescent girls, and caregivers of children under five.
The Social Mobilizer will lead social and behavior change communication (SBCC) activities, facilitate community dialogue, engage key influencers, and support the operationalization of Community Engagement and Feedback Centers (CEFCs). The role plays a crucial part in enhancing community ownership, accountability, and demand creation for essential health and nutrition services, particularly among women of reproductive age, adolescent girls, and caregivers of children under five.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Mobilize and engage target communities in project activities, with a particular focus on nutrition, health, and hygiene promotion, using participatory and culturally appropriate approaches.
- Conduct regular community awareness sessions, group discussions and community dialogues focused on maternal and child nutrition, hygiene practices (e.g., handwashing, water treatment), and health-seeking behaviors., iron and folic acid supplementation (IFA), and micronutrient powder (MNP) usage.
- Promote critical health and nutrition practices such as exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, MNP usage, and IFA supplementation through age- and gender-appropriate SBCC/IEC materials and techniques.
- Actively support the establishment and routine functioning of Community Engagement and Feedback Centers (CEFCs) as platforms for community feedback, dialogue, and action planning.
- Identify and work with community leaders, influencers, and key stakeholders to build trust, ensure community buy-in, and facilitate behavior change.
- Build report and engage meaningfully with religious leaders, teachers, elders, CHWs, CHSs and Family health action groups to foster collective ownership and support for nutrition, health and hygiene interventions.
- Maintain accurate records of all community mobilization activities, including session attendance, feedback received, and outreach results using approved formats and tools.
- Submit timely weekly and monthly field activity reports to the Community Engagement Promotion Officer with key findings, challenges, and recommendations.
- Provide monthly activity action plan, report, and enter the collected data in online system.
- Promote the use of available community feedback mechanisms (e.g., suggestion boxes, hotlines, CEFC sessions) to enhance program responsiveness and accountability.
