Job Descriptions:

Job Purpose:

Managing the pharamcuticals commdites to provide Primary health care services for patients in health Facilities and to oversee the management and operation of a pharmacy department, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications(RUD). They are responsible for supervising the pharmacy section in Health facilities, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards, managing inventory, and optimizing the delivery of pharmaceutical services. The Pharmacy Assistant also plays a key role in providing professional advice to healthcare staff (RUD) and patients, managing medication therapy, and implementing best practices in medication management. Ultimately, they ensure that the pharmacy operates smoothly, meets patient care needs, and adheres to all relevant regulations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Pharmaceutical Management: Oversee the supply , storage, distribution, and proper use of medications in compliance with IMC regulations and guidelines.
  2. Inventory Control: On monthly base Ensure optimal stock levels of medicines and medical commodities are maintained, using appropriate inventory management techniques  and consider the  FIFO and FEFO and monitoring expiration dates of all the pharmaceutical commodities and to prevent the medical commodities expiration through proper planning  and rational use of medicines .
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the pharmacy's operations adhere IMC rules and regulations and MOPH
  4. Training and Capacity Building: Provide training and support to Dispensers, healthcare workers, and other relevant personnel on proper medication management, safe administration, and pharmaceutical best practices.(RUD&MDS).
  5. Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality control procedures to ensure medications are dispensed accurately, safely, and in compliance with IMC standards.
  6. Medication Supply Chain Management: Coordinate with the Kabul pharmacy department to ensure a proper planning ,quantification, supply, storage, distribution of the pharmaceuticals and medical commodities.
  7. Needs Assessment: Regularly assess the medication needs of the Health Facilities based on Consumption data and actual needs and on time sharing with Kabul pharmacy team ensuring cost-effective purchasing of medications and minimizing waste
  8. Collaboration with Health Teams: Work closely with doctors, health staff ,nurses, Midwifes and other healthcare professionals to ensure the appropriate use of medications for patient treatment plans and therapies.
  9. Data Management and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of medication distribution, usage, and stock levels, and prepare regular reports for the management team, donors, and regulatory bodies.
  10. On the job training: Provide on the job training to health staff in health facility  on the proper use of medications(RUD), including dosage, side effects, and potential interactions, while adhering to confidentiality standards.
  11. Monitoring and Evaluation: Evaluate the effectiveness of the pharmaceutical services provided by the INGO and implement improvements as necessary, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and program efficiency.
  12. Adverse Reactions: If a patient reports experiencing an adverse reaction or side effect from a medication, this needs to be documented and reported to the pharmacy Management team who may escalate the issue or notify the appropriate health authorities.
  13. Preparation and submission of monthly reports for the pharmacy including the consumption report, inventory report, and a needs assessment for medications, to the Management team for review and action.
  14. Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit.

Have a best coordination and communication skills with the community and play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical care.

As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards.  Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

  • The candidate will be able to travel to hard-to-reach districts of the target province.
  • The candidate will have good human and communication skills.
  • The candidate should fluently speak Dari, Pashto, and English is an asset.
