Job Descriptions:

Key responsibilities

  • At all times when on duty, wear the hospital uniform provided. Staff are responsible to keep their uniforms clean and repaired
  • Arrive promptly and work in the vision area until the last patient is checked
  • Admit only patients who have a hospital card, and only as space in the vision area permits (up to 10 people at a time)
  • Redirect patients without numbers or cards back to the watchman
  • In consecutive order (according to number received in registration) measure vision in each eye of all patients able to cooperate with the exam
  • If the patient has glasses for distance vision, these should be worn during the measurement of vision
  • Patiently instruct patients on the use of the “E” chart.
  • Always measure the patient’s right eye first, by having the patient completely cover the left eye with the palm of the left hand
  • Gradually progress from larger to smaller lines of the “E” chart
  • An eye with less than 6/12 vision should be rechecked using a pinhole
  • If the patient is unable to read the largest line on the “E” chart, measure “count-fingers” (CF) vision
  • If the patient cannot count fingers at any distance, measure “hand-motion” (HM) vision
  • If the patient cannot detect hand motion, measure “light-perception” (LP) vision
  • Record the vision clearly in the appropriate space on the patient card
  • Repeat the procedure for the left eye
  • Direct small groups of patients whose vision you have checked and recorded to an available bench in the exam area -- but only as space in the exam area permits.
  • For certain patients (e.g. Ward patients, emergency cases, patients with severe pain or bleeding, screaming infants, etc.), immediately check their vision and direct the patient to the exam area
  • Frequently direct waiting patients to remain in the appropriate area, keeping the area calm and orderly
  • Every experienced employee is responsible to cooperate and train the subordinate staff, OTTP students and other people that are outside the program and coming for training
  • Perform other tasks and duties as requested.
Job Requirements:
  • A secondary education or 12th grade certification is required, and graduation from the NOOR Ophthalmic Technician Training Program is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office for reporting purposes.
  • Proficiency in modern eye care techniques and equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to effectively explain scientific information to patients.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
