Position Description:

The Communication Specialist will be responsible for all internal and external communications activities. This includes advocacy, knowledge management, and information dissemination related to DACAAR activities in Afghanistan.

Responsibilities:

A: Strategic Communication Initiatives and Interventions

  • Develop, implement and monitor internal and external communications, visibility, and branding strategies that incorporates the use of traditional, social, and digital media to enhance the visibility of DACAAR. This will be done in partnership with the Senior Management Team, Governing Board and the Head Quarter (HQ) Copenhagen.
  • Participate when invited in discussions with the Senior Management Team on matters related to internal and external communication and advocacy.  
  • Identify opportunities to highlight the key accomplishments of DACAAR’s work and develop talking points, briefing notes, and press releases for senior policy and decision-makers when necessary.
  • In corporation with the SMT, develop, monitor, and evaluate a strategy to work with key influencers in Afghanistan and in the Region.
  • Assist the HQ with communication materials to be used for lobby, advocacy and communication initiatives in Europe, in Denmark and elsewhere.  
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather information, write, edit, design, and disseminate newsletters, human interest stories, best and promising practices, and content for DACAAR’s partners and digital platforms. 
  • Oversee the design, layout, printing, and dissemination of publicity materials, publications and research (print and digital) produced on key sectors of DACAAR’s work, that are consumer-friendly for various audiences.  
  • Establish and maintain internal information-sharing platforms for the sharing of publications information tools and resources. 
  • Ensure that all materials are appropriately branded and conform to the branding strategy as required.
  • Organize special events that are designed to amplify the visibility of DACAAR’s programme.
  • Support the preparation of donor reports and other materials that highlight achievements. 
  • Actively involve staff in internal communication channels
  • Oversee the production, design, and layout of the annual report, technical reports and specific reports upon request.
  • Represent DACAAR in relevant interagency communications forums

B: Key Outcome

  • Increased visibility of the work of DACAAR in Afghanistan, the Region, Denmark and further abroad for all external stakeholders (Donors, Danish public, international agencies e.g. UN) and information sharing for sensible advocacy on relevant platforms.
  • The holder of this position must strictly follow the organization's existing security policies, procedures, and daily instructions of the safety personnel.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be required by senior leadership and provide direct support to the Director on issues of national interest

Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in communication and/or multimedia or similar work experience with a combination of work in the public sector, non-profit sector, private sector and INGOs.

Other qualifications’ an advantage:

  • A solid understanding of the international donor landscape and funding of INGOs
  • Demonstrated practical and field experience in communications, marketing, website management and social media.  
  • Strong advocacy and networking skills with the ability to liaise with and engage government, UN agencies, NGOs, the media, and other external stakeholders in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Strong communication skills and proven experience with the use of social media and other channels for effective advocacy, knowledge sharing, and campaigning.
  • Experience in the use of ICTs to support networking widely.
  • An understanding of non-profit organizations and development and humanitarian work in a fragile.

Languages: Excellent writing and oral skills in English is a prerequisite, Native speaker of at least two Afghan Languages Strong translation skills from local languages into English.
