Job Purpose:

The Mining and Minerals Specialist will play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise and guidance in the field of mining and minerals to optimize mining operations, ensure compliance with regulations, and drive continuous improvement in the company’s mining practices.

Duties& Responsibilities:

  • Conduct technical assessments of mining projects and prospects, including geological surveys, resource estimation, and feasibility studies.
  • Evaluate mining methods, equipment selection, and mine planning strategies to optimize operational efficiency.
  • Provide technical input for the development of mining plans and strategies, considering factors such as ore quality, extraction methods, and processing techniques.
  • Stay updated with relevant mining laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Monitor mining operations to ensure adherence to technical standards, safety protocols, and production targets.
  • Identify areas for improvement in mining processes, equipment utilization, and cost efficiency.
  • Engage with local communities, government agencies, and other stakeholders to foster positive relationships and address concerns related to mining activities.
  • Prepare deposit quantity and quality estimates and other reports summarizing inputs from the Afghanistan Geological Survey as well as the results of field studies and follow up laboratory studies.
  • Make recommendations to the Director on potential large-scale deposits that may be considered for international tender.
  • Provide reports, information and advice to the CEO of the organization to enable the preparation of tendering documents, when required
  • Ensure that data entered into database is accurate and consistent.
  • Technical data analysis of large scale mining Projects, and generate a comprehensive report.
  • Create and manage the process for project development and launching the tenders for large scale Mining Projects.
  • Assessment of TNs, RFPs, PQQ and proposals (from technical point of view) in full compliance with Minerals Law, and mining Regulations in Afghanistan.
  • Actively work to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including government agencies, regional bodies, key industries and business organizations.
  • Provide technical assistance to the negotiation team in order to protect the interests of Afghanistan.
  • Providing facilitation in Preparation of geological data to bidders
  • Contributing to policy reforms and other necessary amendments with respect of international and regional standards.
  • Assessment of the proposals from technical and financial perspective and reporting to the directorate.
  • Actively work to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including government agencies, regional bodies, key industries and business organizations.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mining Engineering;
  • At least 8 years of work experience for Bachelor and 5 years for Masters in relevant field.
  • Fluency in English, Dari, Pashto languages and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Should have sound knowledge of the extractive sector.
  • Should have strong written and oral communication and other interpersonal skills.
  • Should be able to represent the organization on international level to stakeholders.

    Skills:

  • Adaptability to corporate setting is a must.
  • Strong negotiation and client management skills.
  • The ability and desire to complete projects within deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • The incumbent should have sound presentation skills and ability to present to a large group of audience (national and international).
