Job Summary:

The post-holder will provide technical assistance to project outcome 3 – Small-holder producers have enhanced market connectivity and access to value-chain. This will include providing technical support to enhance market access for small-holder producers and agri-businesses. 

Main tasks and responsibilities for this position:

Technical Support:

  • Provide technical assistance to small-holder producers to enhance market connectivity and access to value-chain.
  • Provide technical support in developing business plans for small-holder producers based on the identified value chain and local market potentials and opportunities.
  • Support the building of strategies and plans for establishing linkages between small-holder producers and buyers by facilitating events such as seller-buyer meets, B2B platforms, tapping opportunities for value addition, branding, channel creation and their management.
  • In collaboration with provincial teams, provide technical support to ensure backwards and forward linkages for small-holder producers and access to quality inputs (Agri, textiles, etc.), technical know-how, value addition, and market linkage for better product realization.
  • Assist in providing technical and incubation support to emerging rural entrepreneurs in select commodity value chains
  • Collaborating with local training service providers provide technical business management guidance in designing and conducting Agribusiness training.
  • Support the development of financial models and analyses to help small-holder businesses make sound financial decisions.
  • Provide technical support in developing marketing plans to help small-holder businesses achieve their business goals.
  • Support the teams to develop a mechanism to enhance the connection between small-holder farmers and the value chain agenda and drive a win-win approach for mutually profitable solutions.
  • Support the regional technical team to facilitate the establishing and strengthening vital market linkages between small-holder producer groups and other essential value chain actors in the project area to promote demand and market-driven agricultural production and value chain development.

Reporting, Communication and Visibility:

  • In collaboration with the project team, ensure timely and quality reporting of project activities / targets and accomplishments.
  • Actively support and participate in the documentation of project learning and impact case stories and ensure that all lessons learned and best practices are appropriately documented and used to inform project management decision-making processes and project design
  • In collaboration with the NCA Communications team, assist in developing materials to engage the media in micro and SME entrepreneurship conversations and local value chain development.
  • Assist in regularly monitoring and supervise the projects’ activities, track progress and provide the necessary on-field mentoring support when appropriate to improve group performance and results.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agriculture and Rural Development, Value Chain management, Food Security, Microfinance and Business Administration. Having extensive years of experience in place of Post graduate degree is also considered.
  • At least three years of experience with a proven record in business training, business grants, or business consulting. Work experience in an international organization knowledge of WFP projects can be an advantage.
  • Can effectively communicate in English with exceptional writing, presentation and communication skills.
  • Commitment to teamwork and to working across disciplines
  • Willing to travel to project areas / villages
  • Development-oriented, solid analytical and creative thinking abilities
  • Excellent skills in supporting project management
