Honest Public Ltd (HPL) is an Afghan company delivering technical, operations and support services to telecom operators and international organisations across Afghanistan.

HPL is building a talent pool of BTS (base transceiver station) Technicians for a nationwide telecom network operation and maintenance (O&M) managed-services project. Technicians maintain and repair the BTS, microwave and transmission equipment at mobile network sites in their province.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance visits to BTS sites against the site checklist, and submit reports with photos and videos.
• Respond to BTS, microwave and transmission faults dispatched by the NOC, clear alarms and restore service within the agreed time.
• Replace faulty boards and modules on BTS/NodeB/eNodeB equipment, including baseband and TRX boards, RRUs, SFP modules, CPRI fibre jumpers, fans and power supply units.
• Check microwave IDU/ODU equipment with a laptop (receive and transmit levels, alarms and 1+1 protection status), fit connectors to IF cables, and help realign antennas.
• Measure VSWR and distance-to-fault on antenna feeders and jumpers, check transmit output power, and make test calls and run data tests after every repair.
• Fit earthing kits and weatherproof outdoor connectors, keep equipment labelled, and record spares used and faulty units returned to the store.

Working conditions

Candidates must live in the province they apply for. Shift work, including nights and weekends, on a 24/7 standby and call-out rota, with travel to remote sites in all weather.

• Grade 14 diploma or bachelor's degree in Telecommunication, Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of experience as a BTS or microwave field technician with a mobile operator, tower company or O&M contractor.
• Hands-on experience with multi-vendor BTS/NodeB/eNodeB equipment (e.g. ZTE SDR, Huawei BTS3900/BBU5900), including board replacement, alarm clearance and use of the local maintenance terminal (LMT).
• Hands-on experience with microwave IDU/ODU equipment (e.g. Huawei RTN, ZTE ZXMW, NEC iPASOLINK), IF cable and connector termination, and E1/Ethernet cabling.
• Able to use a cable and antenna analyser (e.g. Anritsu Site Master), an RF power meter and a multimeter, and to prepare digital reports on a smartphone.
• Able to climb towers and work at height using a full-body harness; a working-at-height certificate is an advantage.
• Fluent Dari and/or Pashto; basic English for technical reports; a driving licence is an advantage.
