Job Descriptions:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Master Trainer is responsible for the design, development, and delivery of high-quality capacity-building and strengthening program packages for the project trainers/facilitator, producer groups and proactive farmers. This role focuses on compiling, translating and preparing complex agricultural and entrepreneurial concepts into practical, field-based training modules and curricula that ensure the successful adoption of innovative adaptation measures, market-oriented approaches, and legume value-chain improvements across Balkh province.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Primary Responsibilities

·   Develop and deliver specialized technical training packages focused on improved production, post-production, and food fortification.

·      Design and implement 'Training of Trainers' (ToT) programs for trainers/ facilitators business owners to ensure high-quality peer-to-peer knowledge transfer.

·       Lead the delivery of tailored entrepreneurship training packages for women-led processing businesses.

·   Provide hands-on training on innovative adaptation measures, market system approach, specifically the application of legume inoculants.

 

  1. Technical Support and Expertise

·       Develop comprehensive training manuals, visual aids, and curriculum materials in Dari, Pashto and English, ensuring they are accessible to low-literacy beneficiaries.

·         Provide technical guidance on the correct use of improved agriculture inputs, extension services, and small tools provided by the project.

·   Support the establishment of cleaning, grading, and processing facilities by training operators on technical safety and hygiene standards.

·      Stay updated on MAIL and WHH technical standards to ensure all training content is evidence-based and policy-compliant.

·    Conduct training needs assessments and skills gap analyses to identify priority training areas and target audiences for capacity building interventions.

·       Develop and deliver training on post-harvest handling, storage, processing, quality assurance, and food safety standards.

·     Provide training on entrepreneurship, business planning, financial literacy, market access, value addition, and enterprise development.

·   Develop and utilize appropriate training tools, aids, and technologies to enhance learning effectiveness and participant engagement.

·   Organize and facilitate exposure visits, demonstration plots, field days, study tours, and learning exchanges to reinforce training concepts.

 

  1. Coordination and Collaboration

·         Collaborate with the Value Chain and Agribusiness Officers to ensure training modules align with market requirements and business sustainability.

·         Coordinate with MAIL provincial extension departments to harmonize training approaches and seek official validation of training materials.

·         Work with existing potential women business leaders and community members to facilitate women's participation in training sessions.

·         Liaise with WHH technical teams and trainers to share training impact data and refine methodologies based on field feedback.

·         Coordinate with the National Project Manager, Value Chain Officer, and other project team members to ensure training activities are aligned with project objectives and integrated with other programme components.

·         Liaise with community leaders, farmer organizations, and target beneficiaries to ensure training is responsive to local needs, priorities, and realities.

·         Facilitate linkages between training programs and other project interventions, including access to inputs, finance, and markets.

 

  1. Monitoring and Reporting

·         Conduct pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge gain among project staff and beneficiaries.

·         Monitor the field-level performance of community facilitators to ensure the quality of training is maintained at the village level.

·  Prepare detailed training completion reports, including participant demographics, feedback, and recommendations for improvement.

·     Track the adoption rate of trained techniques (e.g., product diversification methods) through regular follow-up visits.

·   Develop and monitor training-related indicators, targets, and milestones in line with the project logical framework and monitoring and evaluation plan.

·  Document lessons learned, best practices, success stories, and case studies from training interventions for knowledge sharing and reporting purposes.

·    Prepare regular progress reports (monthly and quarterly) on training activities and submit to the National Project Manager.

·  Maintain comprehensive training records including participant databases, training calendars, attendance sheets, and evaluation reports.

  1. Adherence to Policies

·      Comply fully with COAR's organizational policies, including Safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Child Protection, Gender Equality, Anti-Fraud, and Code of Conduct policies.

·         Ensure all training activities are conducted in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

·  Promote gender-sensitive and inclusive training approaches that address the specific needs of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

·         Ensure compliance with donor regulations, government requirements, and national policies in all training activities.

  1. Other Duties

·         Contribute technical content to project newsletters, success stories, and case studies.

·         Assist in the selection process for beneficiaries of specialized training packages.

·         Contribute to the development of training-related communication and visibility materials.

·         Support the National Project Manager in the preparation of work plans, budgets, and donor reports related to training and capacity building activities.

·         Participate in coordination meetings, workshops, and events to share training experiences and lessons learned.

Perform other related duties as required by the National Project Manager or Program Manager that would contribute to the better attainment of project objectives.

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Additional professional qualifications or certifications in Training of Trainers (ToT), adult learning, agricultural extension, or capacity development are an advantage.
  • Academic background should demonstrate strong knowledge of agricultural production, post-harvest management, value addition, and rural development.
  • Relevant education should demonstrate the ability to develop and deliver practical, field-oriented agricultural training.

 

Experience    

  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in agricultural training, extension, capacity building, and agriculture extension.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering Training of Trainers (ToT) and technical capacity-building programs.
  • Experience providing training and technical support to farmers, producer groups, women-led businesses, community facilitators, and other rural stakeholders.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs, development organizations, government agricultural extension services, or similar programmes is highly desirable.

 

Skills:

Technical Skills:

·         Strong knowledge of agricultural production, agronomic practices, improved inputs, legume cultivation, post-harvest handling, and storage.

·    Knowledge of adult learning methodologies, participatory training approaches, ToT techniques, and competency-based capacity development.

·         Ability to provide technical training on food safety, quality assurance, processing, grading, packaging, food fortification, entrepreneurship, and market access.

Professional Skills

·         Excellent facilitation, presentation, communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder-engagement skills.

·         Strong ability to translate complex technical agricultural concepts into simple, practical, and field-oriented learning materials.

Language

·         Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

·         Good working knowledge of English, particularly for technical documentation, training materials, reporting, and professional communication. 

WORK CONDITIONS

Working hours:

  • Full-time from Saturday to Thursday, with flexibility required for emergency reporting or donor visits.

Travel:

Frequent travel to project sites within Balkh province is required.
