About AKHS-A (Aga Khan Health Services-Afghanistan):

Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private, not‐for‐profit health care systems in the developing world with community health programs in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as in East Africa.

The Aga Khan Health Services, Afghanistan (AKHS, A) was established in 2003 as part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKHS, A provides health care services mainly on behalf of the government including the Ministry of Public Health’s of Afghanistan’s Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) and Essential Package of Hospital Services (EPHS). AKHS, A is unique both in scale and scope, delivering critical health services along the continuum of care, from Community Health Workers (CHWs) to ISO certified hospital facilities.

AKHS, A is currently implementing healthcare services in Bamyan, Baghlan, Badakhshan, Kabul and Takhar provinces. The agency’s scope of work includes the provision of primary and secondary healthcare, preventive and curative medical care, Nursing and Midwifery education, Human Resources Development and Hospital Management. As BPHS and EPHS implementer, AKHS, A provides technical support as well as capacity building of health personnel, immunization services, nutrition trainings and the training of Community Health Nurses and Community Health Midwives.

AKHS, A draws on internal and other donor fundings to continue supplementary and complementary support to the national health system. Moreover, AKHS, A has introduced innovations, including, expansions of e-Health services, e-learning initiatives, and cross border arrangements. To promote healthy environment, AKHS, A is also implementing net zero and greenhouse gas emission initiatives.

Job Descriptions:

·       Conducts daily ward rounds for patient observation and review and ensures case notes transfers referrals and discharges are documented to maintain accurate clinical records.

·       Conducts regular clinics to provide timely medical assessment and treatment services.

·       Monitors patients' progress regularly to evaluate treatment outcomes and clinical improvement.

·       Manages emergency cases when required to provide timely medical care.

·       Performs emergency surgical procedures during assigned duties to ensure appropriate emergency management.

·       Supports and counsels patients and relatives on health management to promote understanding and adherence to treatment plans.

·       Coordinates the availability of support services during patient treatment particularly for referrals to ensure continuity of care.

·       Liaises with consultants on specialized cases to support appropriate clinical decision-making.

·       Supports clinical activities prepares timely medical reports and participates in audits mortality reviews presentations rounds and teaching sessions to improve clinical service quality.

·       Follows routine duty rosters established by the Medical Director or Clinical Director to ensure adequate clinical coverage.

·       Shares clinical knowledge by teaching Nurses and Midwives specific service techniques to strengthen healthcare competencies.

·       Supervises and appraises staff and identifies training and development needs to enhance professional performance.

·       Supports standard-based management clinical audits and infection prevention activities to ensure compliance with quality standards.

·       Provides teaching and clinical support to Community Midwifery students to strengthen practical learning and clinical skills.

·       Supports clinical governance and quality assurance activities to improve patient care standards.

·       Provides clinical support to other clinical Departments as required to ensure continuity of healthcare services.

·       Performs other duties assigned by the Head of Department or Medical Director or Clinical Director to support departmental objectives.

·       Supports infection prevention activities within the hospital and assigned clinical areas to ensure compliance with infection prevention standards.

·       Maintains accurate patient registration records and collects complete patient information to ensure reliable clinical documentation.

·       Participates in Performance-Based Financing activities at assigned Health Facilities to ensure compliance with program requirements.

·       Monitors quality management and quality control indicators and supports staff to improve service quality and performance.

·       Tracks non-Performance-Based Financing indicators in coordination with relevant staff to support performance monitoring.

·       Participates as an active member of committees responsible for analysing Performance-Based Financing program activities to support continuous improvement.

·       Contributes to monthly achievement of Performance-Based Financing indicators at the Health Centre through assigned clinical and quality improvement activities.

·       Manages Performance-Based Financing and other program indicators at the Health Centre to ensure accurate monitoring and reporting.

·       Provides quality health services and maintains accurate patient registration data collection and timely reporting in accordance with institutional standards.

·       Performs any other tasks as assigned by the Line Manager.
