Job Descriptions:

The Nutrition Counselor is responsible for conducting regular nutrition screening and anthropometric measurements for children under five years of age and Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) to identify malnutrition cases. The role includes growth monitoring of children under 2 years old, nutrition counselling, health education, documentation, referral of complicated cases, and follow-up of SAM and MAM cases in accordance with MoPH/PND guidelines.

Main responsibilities:


Provide nutrition counselling to pregnant and lactating women on MIYCN practices.

  • Conduct nutrition screening for children under five and PLWs using anthropometric measurements.

  • Carry out growth monitoring for children under two years of age.

  • Identify SAM and MAM cases through regular screening activities for Children under 5.

  • Refer complicated SAM cases to appropriate higher-level health facilities according to established referral pathways.

  • Refer identified SAM and MAM cases to Medical Doctors/Nutrition Nurses for treatment through RUTF and RUSF supplementation.

  • Register SAM and MAM cases in the standard MoPH/PND registers.

  • Support Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) activities in accordance with national guidelines.

  • Participate in active case finding and community nutrition screening activities when required.

  • Maintain proper documentation of screened children and PLWs.

  • Conduct health education sessions on maternal and child nutrition using IEC materials.

  • Facilitate food demonstration sessions at community and health facility levels.

  • Follow up on SAM and MAM treatment cases and trace defaulters when required.

  • Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

  • Perform any other tasks as may be requested by the line manager.

Job Requirements:

Education :

Experience / Skills :

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a Nutrition Counsellor, Nutrition Assistant, in BPHS, EPHS, NGOs, INGOs, or government health facilities.

Languages:

Fluency in local languages is required

IT knowledge :

Microsoft Office package
