Job Descriptions:

JOB PURPOSE:

The Electrical Design Engineer (High Voltage) will be responsible for the design, analysis, and development of high-voltage electrical systems for power and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will prepare engineering designs, technical drawings, calculations, and specifications while ensuring compliance with project requirements, applicable standards, and industry best practices. The position requires a motivated and detail-oriented professional who can work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES:

  • Prepare detailed electrical designs for high-voltage (HV) power systems, substations, and transmission and distribution (T&D) networks in accordance with project requirements and industry best practices.
  • Develop electrical engineering drawings, including Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), layouts, schematics, and technical specifications using appropriate engineering software.
  • Perform electrical engineering calculations, including load flow analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and equipment selection.
  • Prepare, review, and verify engineering calculations, technical reports, design documents, and specifications to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with civil, structural, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated and efficient project execution.
  • Ensure that all electrical designs comply with applicable international standards, including IEC, IEEE, and other relevant codes, as well as client specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in design review meetings, technical discussions, and value engineering activities, providing recommendations to enhance system performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support during project implementation, construction, testing, and commissioning, and assist in resolving engineering-related issues as required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation, drawing revisions, technical records, and document control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support procurement activities by reviewing technical submittals, evaluating vendor documentation, and responding to technical queries where applicable.
  • Collaborate with project managers, clients, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and successful project delivery.
  • Perform any other electrical engineering duties assigned by the supervisor or project management in support of organizational objectives.
Job Requirements:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university is required.
  • A Master's Degree in Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering, or a related field will be considered an advantage.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in the design of high-voltage electrical systems, substations, transmission, and distribution projects.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

The successful candidate should have practical knowledge of:

  • AutoCAD Electrical
  • ETAP
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Preparation and interpretation of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
  • High Voltage (HV) power system design
  • Substation design principles
  • Transmission and Distribution (T&D) systems
  • Electrical load calculations, cable sizing, and equipment selection
  • IEC and IEEE Standards
  • Preparation of technical reports and engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of DIgSILENT PowerFactory, EPLAN, or other power system analysis software will be considered an advantage.
