Job summary

The Site Engineer is responsible for the correct execution of all civil and structural works on site — demolition, excavation, foundations, the generator rooms, the service / technical room and the underground fuel tank pits — strictly in accordance with the drawings, the technical specification and the approved method statement.

Project scope relevant to this position

      Demolition of the existing stone masonry and foundations beneath the relocated structures.

      Excavation, reinforced concrete and masonry works for the generator rooms and the service / technical room.

      Civil works associated with the two underground fuel tanks of 25,000 litres each.

      Builder’s work in connection with electrical cabling, ducting, cable trenches and earthing.

Duties and responsibilities

      Set out the works and verify levels, lines and dimensions against the issued drawings before each activity starts.

      Supervise the daily execution of civil and structural works and direct the foremen and labour gangs.

      Check that every material delivered to site conforms to the specification before it is incorporated into the works.

      Raise inspection requests to the QA/QC Engineer at each hold point and do not proceed until the point is released.

      Keep the daily site diary, labour and plant returns, survey records and as-built mark-ups.

      Coordinate with the Electrical Engineer so that trenches, sleeves, ducts and cable routes are provided in the right sequence and are not cut into finished work.

      Measure completed quantities each month and submit them to the Project Manager for the payment application.

      Support the HSSE Officer in enforcing excavation, lifting and work-at-height controls.

Reporting line

Reports to the Project Manager on site, with a functional line to the company head office.

Job Requirements:

      Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.

 

      Minimum five (5) years of position-specific experience on building construction projects.

 

      Experience on at least one completed project with reinforced concrete substructures, plant rooms or service rooms of comparable scale.

 

      Experience with excavation support, dewatering and waterproofing for underground tanks or pits is a strong advantage.

 

      Competent in AutoCAD and in reading structural and architectural drawings.

 

      Working proficiency in English sufficient to prepare technical correspondence and site records; fluency in Dari and / or Pashto.

 

      Able to be based full time on site in Herat for the duration of the contract.
