Job Summary
The Midwife is responsible for delivering comprehensive, high-quality Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCAH) services at the health facility, including antenatal care (ANC), safe normal delivery, postnatal care (PNC), neonatal care (NNC), family planning, and management of acute malnutrition among pregnant and lactating women (AM-PLW), in accordance with national guidelines and protocols. The midwife ensures safe, respectful, and client-centered maternity care for all women and newborns. The role includes providing counseling to pregnant women on danger signs, maternal nutrition, birth preparedness, and prevention and management of common pregnancy-related conditions. The midwife delivers postnatal and newborn care services, promotes exclusive breastfeeding for infants 0–5 months, and appropriate complementary feeding for children 6–24 months, and supports maternal nutrition. She also provides family planning counseling and services, with emphasis on modern contraceptive methods. The midwife works in close coordination with other health team members, including mobile teams where applicable, to achieve organizational and Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) goals, and performs any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Pregnancy and Delivery Care Responsibilities
Provide skilled birth attendance services to all mothers presenting at the health facility during working hours, ensuring delivery care in line with national standards and protocols.
· Deliver a minimum of four focused Antenatal Care (ANC) visits for each pregnant woman throughout the pregnancy period, in accordance with maternal health guidelines.
· Educate pregnant and postpartum women on danger signs during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, ensuring early recognition and timely care-seeking.
Counsel pregnant women, caregivers, and family members (including mothers-in-law) on birth preparedness, complication readiness, and the importance of delivering at a nearby health facility.
Postpartum care
- Provide postnatal care (PNC) and neonatal care (NNC) services to mother and newborn at least four times after delivery.
- Advice mothers on importance of colostrum
Provide mother and child nutrition counseling for lactating mothers including exclusive breast-feeding for children 0-5 months and the addition of supplementary food for children ages 5-24 months.

Family Planning Counseling and Services
Provide comprehensive counseling on modern contraceptive methods, ensuring clients are well-informed about available options, benefits, and potential side effects.
Deliver family planning services by providing appropriate modern contraceptive methods available at the health facility, in line with national guidelines and protocols.
Identify and refer clients requiring specialized or long-term contraceptive methods to higher-level facilities or relevant service providers.
Support health facility staff in planning and conducting health education and awareness sessions for eligible female clients attending the health facility, ensuring messages are clear, culturally appropriate, and aligned with national guidelines.
Actively participate in the preparation of monthly HMIS reports, contributing as a member of the Health Facility HMIS Committee with a focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of data.
