Summary:
The Kitchen Gardening Instructor is responsible for delivering practical, climate-smart kitchen gardening training to male and/or female trainees, depending on center arrangements. The instructor is expected to build usable skills through simple, hands-on teaching that helps trainees establish or improve household gardens for nutrition, small-scale production, and income support.
Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery.
· Prepare and deliver structured kitchen gardening sessions according to the approved training plan and calendar.
· Use demonstrations, practical exercises, and simple explanations suitable for the literacy and experience levels of trainees.
· Ensure that sessions are organized, participatory, and properly documented through attendance and session records.
· Promote confidence, regular participation, and hands-on learning throughout the training cycle.
Technical Content and Practical Skills
· Teach land or bed preparation, nursery basics, seed selection, sowing, transplanting, spacing, irrigation, weeding, and harvesting methods.
· Teach compost preparation, safe use of organic inputs, soil improvement, seasonal planning, and practical pest management methods.
· Promote climate-smart and water-conscious approaches that are realistic for household-level use in Kunar.
· Guide trainees on garden maintenance, crop planning, and simple household production methods that can strengthen food use and surplus sale opportunities.
Training Planning and Materials
· Prepare session plans, practice plans, and material requirements in advance.
· Coordinate with the project team on tools, seeds, consumables, demonstration plots, and centre readiness needs.
· Support practical adaptation of training content when seasonal, climatic, or logistical conditions change.
Trainee Support, Monitoring, and Coordination
· Maintain attendance and immediately flag absenteeism, dropout risks, or protection concerns to the project team.
· Support trainees during practical work and provide constructive coaching in a respectful manner.
· Participate in simple skills checks, trainee feedback collection, and follow-up support as required.
· Coordinate with Community Mobilizers and project staff to support participation and retention.
Reporting and Documentation
· Submit attendance sheets, session plans, progress notes, and required updates on time.
· Contribute to monthly reports, monitoring visits, and technical review activities.
· Immediately report serious issues affecting training quality, safety, materials, or centre functioning.
