ARWEO is dedicated to transforming the lives of marginalized children including boys and girls, particularly those with immediate education, protection, and humanitarian needs, and those belonging to IDP, refugee, and host communities in the affected provinces of Afghanistan.

 

Project Background:

ARWEO is implementing the Youth Skill Development in Climate Resilience & Green Jobs in Kunar Province. The project targets adolescents and youth, with strong priority for young women and girls, returnees, vulnerable households, and persons with disabilities across Asadabad, Shegal, Nurgal, Narang, Khas Kunar, and Sawkay. It supports four trades: Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, Climate-Smart Kitchen Gardening, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs), and Home-Based Poultry Farming. The project combines technical skills, life skills, basic enterprise support, safe delivery systems, and market linkage so that participants can use their training for income generation, self-employment, or improved household resilience.

Job Descriptions:

Summary:

To deliver practical, high-quality, and context-appropriate training in home-based poultry farming so that trainees can safely apply poultry management skills for household food security, small-scale production, and income generation.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery.

·       Prepare and deliver structured sessions on home-based poultry farming according to the approved schedule and training plan.

·       Use practical demonstrations, simple explanations, and guided exercises suited to the literacy and experience levels of trainees.

·       Ensure that sessions start and end on time and that attendance and participation are properly recorded.

·       Create a positive learning environment that encourages questions, practice, and confidence-building.

Technical Content and Practical Skills.

·       Teach poultry housing basics, chick and hen management, feeding, watering, hygiene, flock care, and routine household poultry practices.

·       Orient trainees on vaccination awareness, common disease prevention measures, early warning signs, and referral to animal health support when needed.

·       Teach safe egg collection, egg handling, storage, cleaning routines, waste management, and low-cost improvements for productivity.

·       Promote realistic and affordable methods that fit household-level poultry production under local conditions.

 Training Planning and Materials.

·       Prepare session plans, practice plans, and material or equipment requirements in advance.

·       Coordinate with the project team on demonstration materials, starter-input orientation, and center readiness for training.

·       Adapt delivery methods when practical constraints affect sessions, while maintaining learning quality and safety.

Trainee Support, Monitoring, and Coordination.

·       Maintain daily attendance records and immediately inform the project team about absenteeism, dropout risks, or protection concerns.

·       Support trainees during practical exercises and provide corrective coaching in a respectful and constructive manner.

·       Participate in skills checks, trainee feedback collection, and simple follow-up processes as required by the project.

·       Coordinate with Community Mobilizers, the Project Manager, and other project staff to support retention and regular participation.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Farming, Poultry Production Management, Animal Husbandry, or related field.

·       At least 2–3 years of relevant practical and/or instructional experience in poultry management, animal husbandry, household poultry production, or similar work.

·       Previous experience as a trainer, instructor, field facilitator, extension worker, or practitioner in NGO, TVET, private sector, or community settings is an advantage.

·       Ability to explain technical concepts in a practical way to trainees with mixed educational backgrounds.

·       Good communication skills in local languages; basic English is an advantage.

·       For female centers, female instructors are strongly preferred where required by project arrangements and community context.

 Technical Knowledge

·       Strong practical poultry management skills.

·       Ability to teach patiently, clearly, and respectfully.

·       Good group facilitation and trainee support skills.

·       Attention to hygiene, safety, and practical low-cost solutions.

·       Reliable documentation and communication.

·       Good teamwork and cooperation with project staff.

Reporting Line and Working Relationships

The Home-Based Poultry Farming Instructor reports directly to the Project Manager or designated supervisor and works closely with Community Mobilizers, the MEAL Officer, the Market Development Officer, and other project staff involved in training, follow-up, accountability, and center management

Gender and Inclusion Considerations

·       Training delivery and staff conduct must respect the realities of male and female learning groups and the agreed center arrangements.

·       Female trainees must be supported through respectful, culturally appropriate, and confidence-building approaches, especially in women’s centers.

·       The post holder must take into account the needs of returnees, vulnerable youth, persons with disabilities, and participants who need extra encouragement or practical support.

·       Any discriminatory, humiliating, exploitative, or abusive behaviour is strictly prohibited.

Performance Expectations

  • Regular, timely, and quality delivery of poultry training sessions.
  • Strong trainee attendance support and constructive facilitation of practical learning.
  • Proper management of session plans, attendance records, and training documentation.
  • Professional conduct and compliance with project procedures and safeguarding requirements.
  • Visible practical progress among trainees in the poultry trade area.

 

Other Conditions

The role may require travel to training centers and district locations, flexible scheduling in line with training calendars, and support for related technical tasks reasonably connected to the post. ARWEO may adjust detailed assignments within the overall scope of this TOR in response to project needs and contextual realities.
